You don't need to be the best athlete to be the best coach... look at Bang Ludwig. Average mma career, believed to be a good HC.

James Krause has already been coaching and Tim Elliot isn't a bad example.

The trick of "he is the only guy that took this fight!" is a good one actually. Gets you fights no one wants to see. Even if the payoff is peanuts and a sore arm.
