Dave Meltzer falls for fake Mayweather/Diaz story!

In his latest newsletter that came out Wednesday, he posted

Floyd Mayweather Jr. claimed that he gave Diaz a duffel bag filled with $1 million in cash on Saturday night for beating McGregor.

“I can’t stand McGregor. He is as sorry as he is a fighter. He thinks he can come to America and trash talk, but he better know to never write a check he can’t cash. He must know that the Diaz Brothers ain’t nothing to laugh about.”

“It’s funny how the two main people that be talking shit, Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor, both got they ass handed to them. From now on, anytime either one of them gets beat, they opponent getting $1 million just because I can’t stand those two mutha f***as. I would have given a mill to Holly Holm if she didn’t get beat like that last night.”

When he was alerted to it on his message board (but it is out there already), he did a ninja edit with no explanation.

I think he is by far the best out there, but this is bad reporting IMO

Dave is usually a lot better than that.
But he did post it and should get some heat.
I give him the deserved credit when he breaks stories or reports with more detail than anybody else. Only fair I hold him to that level when he fucks up.

Nothing about the story resembled anything Mayweather would actually do or say, it was a totally ridiculous story.

But combat sports, both boxing and MMA, have notoriously shitty sports writers.

Just a mistake, it can happen with all the fake news sites around. Meltzer is a really cool guy in person, saw him at UFC fan expo in 2014 and he was super cool and chatted briefly about UFC and boxing.
