I've mentioned this several times in the past and no one ever gives a fuck but let it be known, Darrion Caldwell will be the BW CHAMP in the UFC within the next three years.

He still has some major work to do, don't get me wrong, but you are witnessing greatness.

Where have you been making that statement at? I've been talking up Caldwell like that for a long time (Sherdog tells me i've created 125 posts that include his name....yicks) and I haven't noticed you on the wagon plus sherdog says it is the first time you've used his name in a post.

For the record I agree with you; but i'm conducting this train #WarCaldwell

How about let him fight more than 9 times against stiffer competition than a 39 year old Joe Warren before we start talking about a fighter being a future "greatest of all time"?

Caldwell could very well be in a brooks situation, Coker needs to start making some signings for that division.

No need. His wrestling is already better than anyone in the sport at BW. He's 5'10, as athletic as they come and will have Bellator cleared out shortly.

Right this sec if Caldwell faced Faber or Dilly how do you see it going?

I don't see it going at all. Bellator signed him to a long term deal, many fights over multiple years. He's fought six fights so far and I think he's got several more in the tank for them. By the time he's a free agent, the BW landscape in the UFC may be very different.

I see him having some good matches at featherweight before his contract is up, I'd love to see him against Straus if he clears out 135lbs.

I hadn't even heard of disqus before right now; but it does show that you've been commenting to post to sherdog news stories (something I never look at) for a long time; so preach on my good man. To the question above he beats Faber today and Dilly is too hard to tell because he hasn't really fought a "movement specialist" like the top 2 guys in the UFC at 135.

The way he beat Warren last night was crazy-impressive.

I'm on the bandwagon, Caldwell is something special, I see a very bright future for him in MMA.

Yup; I'm hesitant with short and stocky wrestlers (the vast majority) that are great but if you can find one that was great and is rangy with some striking ability and you have a dangerous man.

Too bad he only has Galvao and Dantas left. Maybe they'll let him go to Rizin and have a fight against Bibi or something.

I want him in the UFC though. Seeing him against all the other prospects like Sterling, Almeida, etc would be excellent.

Right on with this thread. I fully agree. He is gifted athletically and capable of pulling off things average fighters can't. His balance and hi hips alone will put him on top position when things get sloppy. His wrestling is a whole different subject.
He has the nastiest top game. I don't care what anyone says, he represents folkstyle wrestling in mma. Not freestyle. That means when he brings you down, you stay down. And you will not be comfortable. Finally an mma wrestler who knows how to use a crossface consistently in his arsenal. Always looking out for his signature spladle. I know he will hit it on someone soon.
His takedowns are as slick as you get in mma.

I must say I have not heard alot of Mr. Caldwell but I must say I was most impressed with what I saw last night he looked like an Odell Beckham of BW mma.

Don't know if he will become the GOAT but he's certainly going to dethrone the winner of Galvao/Dantas 2 (If it ever happens)

Caldwell is great and could be one of the best BW, sadly fighting in Bellator we wont know.

But as expected this is what happens each time someone puts on a good performance outside UFC, they instantly become the real best and the GOAT.

I'm all for hyping up fighters as long as it's not obnoxious and over-the-top like those assclowns who said Marius Zaromskis would beat GSP. That just turns people off.

I don't really see that as being any different than a UFC contender who hasn't lost yet but has only fought guys around 8-12 but looked great doing it; who do you have in mind as being overhyped?

For every example outside of the UFC; i'm sure an example of a guy inside the UFC who flashed talent can be said too i.e. Gunner Nelson & Brandon Thatch as examples. I guess the difference would be that those guys get the chance to show it or fail while the guy elsewhere can have the debate last a lot longer.

Here is my memory of the big names outside of the UFC and how they were viewed:

170/185 Lombard - He is a grey area; he needed to drop a weight class, but I would still pick a steroid abusing Lombard over Robbie. Fresh off of suspension Lombard still needs to be re-evaluated later this month. At 185lbs he appears to have been overvalued but at his new weight class it isn't exactly incorrect

Dantas/Galvao - Have never heard them called the best

Strauss - Haven't heard him called the best

Pitbull - Nobody is calling for him at 145 as the best, but i've went on record as to saying I think he would be in the title mix if he ever dropped to 135 like I think he is capable of doing.

Chandler/Alvarez - I thought the rematch was a tie (10-8 round for Chandler) but Eddie is coming off wins over Pettis and Gil so I think both of them have been capable of beating the champs at various points of their career

Askren - He has a loud small group of fans; and falls under the he could probably be the champion but only if Dana wanted him to be the champion. He is one dimensional but very good at that one dimension, the matchups could be made to get him to the title belt or the matchups could be made to have him go 0-2 and flame out.

Koreshkov - Coming off a performance even better than Caldwells and most don't have him beating Bendo

185lbs - All fighters laughed at universally outside of the UFC

McGeary - I've read "he could be the next Jon Jones" largely just because he is tall, rangy and has some fun striking, but in terms of the present I think most would be shocked if Phil Davis doesn't beat him. If he beats Phil Davis though, his hype is going to get huge in a hurry.

Will Brooks - Probably considered the fighter most likely to beat the UFC champ; seems reasonable to me, he is well rounded and just recently murked Chandler

King Mo - There are people who rank him too high but he isn't getting called the GOAT in any circles.

Gatheje - He is an awesome watch and it has probably been said but with each additional fight most realize he takes too much damage to be the best

Overeem - Hype was justified, he has been an unlucky fighter in the UFC.

Minakov - Who can remember that long ago? lol

Fedor - worthy of the hype

Caldwell - Monster

Bubba Jenkins - I overrated him as a fighter when I saw that he was moving to 145, but not sure many others echoed my thoughts. Still too early to be written off but he isn't apart of a major gym I don't think; so it is

I just don't know how anyone could come to the conclusion that Caldwell is a future GOAT simply by looking at the little we've seen from him in his career this far. All we've seen from him is wrestling. What will he look like the first time his shot gets stuffed and he is forced to strike? I'm sorry but beating Joe Warren isn't some great measuring stick to see where someone is. Joe would be average at best in the UFC's BW division. Caldwell is a cool guy ( The wrestling fan in me kind of wishes he would've continued wrestling on the international level, as well as Bubba Jenkins) but he's got to show us more of his game.
