That Prime Shogun was a boss.
Darren Till talked big, but couldn't walk the walk really. It was similar in a way of a match up where one fighter is karate based and the other is muaythai based, but at a lower level match up than a Machida - Shogun fight.
That fight for me had a huge anticipation and hype, where on one side was the best LHW in the world in Shogun Rua, and on the other, the undefeated karate fighter, who at the time had the invincible aura that was as good as they come, tho you would only know it if you were around back then, since Machida have been getting knocked around pretty good in late portion of his career.
Against a counter striker like Thomson, but someone who's more lethal and undefeated and a champion in Machida, Shogun pressed the action all the way through and really became the first one to solve that Machida puzzle, winning the fight clearly but in the judge's eyes, unlike Darren Till who talked big but ended up fighting cautious all night.
For me, that fight is one of the best fights of all time. That had the quality of fighters, and the fight itself, hype and anticipation, the undefeated fighter vs the best fighter, with the title on the line.
And that wasn't even a prime Shogun.
