I made a video breaking down Cormier's wrestling. How much of a role do you think his wrestling will play against Stipe? I figure he can probably win a round or so with it, but likely lacks the cardio to wrestle for a long time.

Overall I think Stipe probably wears him out and beats him down the stretch, but it's a close fight and I wouldn't be surprised either way.

I don't think at his age and him allowing himself to get out of shape would allow him to wrestle Stipe for 5 rounds.

Whenever a wrestler says "I just wanted to prove I can stand with him" ... they are lying.

They are just too tired to keep wrestling or they know they will gas so they avoid it.

I’m curious, did you get into how little it was used in the first two fights? I think it’s partly the cardio. I think the other factor is that Stipe is a big strong dude, and DC can’t rag doll him the way he’s tossed guys around in the past. It looked like he felt it out in the first fight and was “over it” pretty quickly.

I don’t think he’d stand with stipe unless he had to. At the end of the day, his ko of stipe was more so clinch work and dirty boxing than it was striking. In the second fight he came out as a pure striker. So I’ve no idea what he does now, but I’d like to at least see him implement some clinch work.

I talked a bit about his cardio issues, and yeah agreed. Stipe really made him work for that takedown he got in the second fight, and it was energy intensive. He couldn't get to his entries the way he could against a lot of other fighters, as Stipe usually had a frame ready.

When have we really seen Cormier really utilize his wrestling for a whole fight? Anderson?

I'm not expecting load of wrestling, I think he'll slam Stipe a few times but that'll be it. I don't think Stipe can be held down for 5

Stipe has Division 1 level wrestling, not at Daniel's level but he has better Cardio and better boxing. I think Stipe wins the rematch as Daniel has not stayed in shape and Stipe looks like he will be in the best shape he has been in his last 4 or 5 fights.

Didn’t read but overall JJ mma wrestling >>>>>>DCs

DC's best bet is to combine his wrestling with dirty boxing and try and smother Stipe. That's Cormier's bread & butter. Make it ugly in close with lots of pressure. Land something big like the first fight.

It's his only hope. Dana set him up with a small cage. If he doesn't win he just wasn't good enough.

nice. i didn't know the writers of fight site were on this website. Great work. I enjoy the content on that channel and the website

Pre USADA and test failing Jones yes.

Post picograms ... his wrestling has looked ... weak.
Let’s be fair post USADA his wrestling has mostly dominated lhws, it’s just those not so good one legged MWs like Santos he cannot wrestle

dc like romero limit their wrestling in fights to mostly defensive and it has more to do with injuries and their body then it does cardio i think. when you sign up to fight them too all you do is train wrestling too its almost to their advantage to not wrestle at that point.

Johnson, Lewis, Henderson, no time

Not so good, Jones ragdolled him with much less accomplishments in wrestling.

Beating bums or being the heavier guy all the time (LHW) with his wrestling is easy, like he always did.

That's not true.

He tossed around Hendo, he held down Silva, he took down Rumble and gassed him till he beat him.

Wrestling is a huge part of Cormier's game but if he struggles to take you down and/or has issues holding you down after a takedown (Jones, Gus, Stipe), then he gives up on it because its a calculated choice he makes during the fight to not waste precious energy.

If he can maul you with his wrestling ... he will.

DC doesn't need to wrestle with him for 5 rounds.

He has beating the tar out of Stipe on the feet in both fights for a large majority of the minutes in the cage. He'll just mix up his wrestling more than we have seen in the first two fights and either put him away or win an easy decision.
