Media Daniel Cormier: "Islam Has to Be The Champion Now"

DC commentated Khabib's last fight and was as impartial as it gets..
ok fair enough.
I don't recall that commentary, but I take you at your word. I do remember him bowing out of at least ONE Khabib fight (I think maybe the one vs the Irish man) due to his long-time association with Khabib.

Seriously bro, you can watch the fight on YouTube. He was even giving the audience clues on what Justin should do e.g. hurting Khabib with the leg kicks, keeping the fight in the center of the octagon, etc.

He knew about Khabib's mumps weeks before the fight, and the broken toes, and didn't bring these up at all before or during the fight, or even after it. It was Khabib who did after. Honestly, it doesn't get any impartial more than that.

Well, after Hooker it's another 1-2 fights before he gets a title shot. He can keep trucking along and he might fight for the title back half of 2022 or 2023. That's if he doesn't lose before then. Now the fights will get tough.
Another two fights? Do you think he has to clean out the division before getting a title fight? Lmao, wtf? One more fight at the most and honestly its kind of BS he's had to win 9-10 fights to get his title shot.

Hi, there is no reason to get upset and all worked up here. Take a deep breath and let's calm down. Ready....inhale, hold, and exhale. They're you go :)

Now, Dana White already said he's got one more fight before he would be up for a title shot. I think one fight is sufficient considering it would be a top 3 guy. Now, why I said 1-2 fights is because of other variables that could force him to fight again after one more win. Could be...

1. Instant rematch and Islam may be offered another fight if he doesn't want to wait.
2. He gets injured and he falls back a bit while someone else moves up for a title shot.
3. The champ gets injured and he takes another fight.
4. You always have the Conor effect of him cutting in line, you know how the UFC is and it's always a possibility.
5. The UFC may just want to give the shot to someone else.

So the 2nd fight is something that I considered only because I've seen it happen so many times. Look at the scenario with Leon Edwards. Was on a 8 fight win streak after beating RDA, was gonna face Khamzat and was getting a shot with a win. Khamzat get injured and he fights Belal Muhamed, it's a NC. Then he fights Diaz and now Jorge. No shot.

I'm not upset buddeh, in fact I said in that post that I'm laughing here. What's a guy got to do to get a title shot these days, clean the entire division out? And at the same time some people are talking about the winner of Chandler-Gaethje getting a title shot

LOL, I was only kidding.

Well, no he doesn't have to clean out the division. I think we both agreed that one more fight vs a top 3 opponent is necessary. Dan Hooker is a very nice win, but we want to see him vs a title level fighter, a contender. Anyhow, the possibilities I listed that he'd have to fight again can happen and worth talking about. But they are circumstantial. If all goes well and he fights say Dariush, Gatehje/Chandler loser or Olivera/Poirier loser and wins, then the shot likely is his. But it can happen if something goes wrong.

Chandler/Gatehje are former title contenders and higher ranked fighters. So, yes they are up there for the title.

They got finished in their title fights and haven't won a fight since, its absurd that people talk about them as being in title contention atm. Dariush and Islam are the two contenders that should be talked about as being in title contention.

Tony never got his ts after a 12 fight win streak.

Hey, as they say, you can't fight city hall. It's just the way the system works. Gaethje has nothing but top 5&10 wins, he lost to the champ and could rack up another top 5 win. Chandler is a funny scenario, but beating Gatehje is a huge win. So either one is a legit contender. You know the winner is getting the next shot.

Its definitely a possibility, the UFC seems to like stale match ups and to give title shots to undeserving contenders like Colby while legit contenders are forced to rack up massive win streaks. Of course it'd be complete BS for either of those two to get the shot while Islam and Dariush have yet to get theirs.

He at least got an interim title shot after nine wins but yeah, what happened to Tony was annoying. In fairness Tony was such a bad ass that even though he could've easily sat out and waited for Khabib at some point he wanted to stay active and kept fighting. Led to him losing his title shot but as a fan its hard not to respect that.

He had one of the most violent win streak. People forget that

One of the best win streaks in UFC history. People forget that since Khabib fought two catchweight bouts his win streak at LW is technically only 11 so Tony still has the longest one at LW.

I don't like the Colby scenario, you got Edwards and that should be his fight.

But at LW, I am good with Gaethje or Chandler getting the shot. I think both are the best contenders right now. I honestly think they are ahead of Dariush or Islam right now. I think both those guys need another big win.

And you know there is an agenda with Chandler and he's being pushed. Besides rankings and wins, the UFC has invested into this guy and want to push him.

Couldn't disagree more.

Well, that's fine, I don't mind at all.

With that said, let's see how it looks after this weekend. Going to be interesting. I have Gaethje landing a very nice KO.
