Media Dana White: "We're working it out" regarding Wonderboy pay issue

Do you think Wonderboy will get paid?

How he said that with a straight face is both disgusting and kinda impressive.

WB should absolutely get his show money. He was there and ready to fight at weight and the other guy wasn't. It's not a fucking school yard. You don't "turn up to fight". You turn up to fulfil a contract that has been signed by everyone involved. Dana's making it sound like he turned up looking for a freebie.
He was looking for a freebie. Yes, you fulfill the contract, and the contract is for a fight, and he didn't do that. If your opponent misses weight, he now owes you 20% of his purse, or you can turn it down and take another fight or just not fight and not get paid for the fight you turned down. It's the definition of looking for a freebie to not do the thing you're paid to do but expect full payment for not doing the job.

As much as I hate douche white, I didn't know that they offered him an alternate fight. The ufc is right here.Sorry WB, but they didn't just make you fight an overweight guy.

I'm pretty sure Wonderboy signed a contract to fight at 171lbs and his opponent came in at 173lbs...
Wonderboy fulfilled his obligation

Yes, this is why Pereira owes WB 20% of his purse if they continue to fight. Which they didn't.

Completely different from trying to say the UFC somehow owes WB money.

BS. He showed up ready - it’s not his fault his opponent did not.

God, I hate this garbage organization sometimes. Their greed and lack of respect for fighters is despicable.

It also sets a messed up precedent if you force guys into taking fights if they want to get paid. Might as well show up at 205 to fight at WW.

don’t @ me dana bootlickers, you know it’s true.

The problem with this is that Wonderboy spent an entire training camp preparing for one guy. One specific guy. Watching video, sparring, etc. And at the very last second, when no further training can be done, the guy misses weight and the UFC tries to force him to fight someone else.

Wonderboy didn't miss weight. He didn't get injured. He did his job. He did it on time.

And now he's not getting paid - even though he has to pay coaches, training partners, etc.

But somehow you think that's the right thing and he shouldn't get paid?

Right. Okay.

The extra layer on top of it all is that Wonderboy has been a model company man for his entire tenure in the UFC and he's very near the end of his career. Even in his recent interview with Ariel, WB was extremely cautious in not besmirching the UFC brand or Dana.

Like someone said in the other thread, no one should be surprised, but its a crummy way to play it.

Not paying someone like Wonderboy who seems to be one of the nicest guys in MMA makes this even worse. He had a totally understandable reason for not taking the fight either.

He's 40 and top 7, the last time he was in this kind of position his opponent missed weight by multiple pounds and he lost a razor thin decision, then his opponent gets a title shot despite missing weight. Good for him for not doing the UFC favors anymore. Hopefully more fighters will follow suit and hopefully the mma media grows some balls and keeps asking why they won't pay him his show money or cover the cost of his camp and pay him something on top of that to compensate him for his opponent being unprofessional.

They should've asked him does he think its a good thing for the fighters safety to cut weight again 2 weeks later and fight with 2 weight cuts inside of a month?
That's the next best move for the fighter , at 40 years of age? From where I'm standing? That sounds dangerous

Dana decided to fund an org where two guys held in stationary positions take turns hitting each other in the face, defenseless, until one falls over.

If he could make a nickel letting orphan kids fight in a snake pit he would.

Maybe it's something that fighters managers should start to fight for in their contract. If my opponent doesn't make it to the fight, misses weight, whatever, the fighter will get at least the show money, or 50%, or some flat fee.

Can't have them in situations like these, where it depends on the mood of their bosses.
