It's his chance to be big man on campus which is good for ego. I wonder if anyone will try to prove how tough they are by challenging him.

the guy promoting him, paying to advertise him, building a card around him and expecting him to show up for work on a certain night probably cares just a little bit

it's not his off time when he's made an agreement to fight on a certain date, and I'm assuming has signed a contract for that.
