"That's the thing -- nobody wants to do it. GSP would never move up to 185 to fight Anderson Silva. He wouldn't do it," White said when speaking to Russillo and Kanell on Tuesday. "That's what makes Saturday so fun. You know how many times we wanted to do the GSP-Anderson Silva fight? GSP would not do it. Would not do it. Guys don't do that stuff. That's what makes Conor McGregor so unique, so fascinating and so fun.

"For GSP he was moving up one weight class. Conor McGregor jumped up two weight classes."

Didn't he prevent Aldo from moving to 155lbs for a superfight back in the day?

Conor McGregor moved up one* weight class (Nate is a 155'er, they only fought at 170 because Nate couldn't cut on short notice).

Not to mention that McGregor should have always been a 155'er in the first place.

Conor fought a 155'er. He did NOT MOVE UP TWO WEIGHT CLASSES. God, what goons lol

Any 170 would butcher Conor, literally.

From this quote i'm assuming the GSP contract talks for UFC 200 didn't do well or he would be saying better things.

GSP didn't look like an aids infected crack head at weigh ins.

Truth is Conor was always a LW, he's the same size as most of the top LW's, he just made a weight cut no one else would do because of unhealthy it is for you.

Conor walks around at the same weight as Ben Henderson.

Yes, many champs wanted to move up, but Dana White told them they'd have to vacate their current belt. He let Conor keep his. So Conor has had an opportunity no one else has had.

No disrespect to Nate Diaz but stepping up to fight a Anderson Silva is a far cry from stepping up to fight a "I was on vacation" Nate Diaz, especially given the time when both men were at their peaks...

And tarnished his legacy because he took a dumb match up. Just makes GSP look even smarter.

Anderson Silva wouldn't move up to fight Jon Jones either. That was a fight to make for a while, especially when Jones cleared out his division and Andy had already had 3 fights at LHW.

GSP dominated the best division the UFC had. It's still the best division. GSP also didn't look like death at weigh ins. He still looked healthy.

The hyperbole is out of control. Conor is a dude who murders himself to make 145. He's a 155 fighter who fought another 155 fighter.

I also think weight classes should be 10 pounds apart and their should be limits on how much weight can be cut the week of the fight. With some more strict rulings on weight classes and cutting, I think we'd see a lot more fighters willing to move to different weight classes and take catch weight fights.

I'm tired of the lies and I'm tired of guys being thrown under the bus. GSP is a legend and Dana can go fuck himself for ever talking negatively about him. Fuck Dana White. He's a pig.

...and this is why GSP ain't coming back irrespective of the fact that he'd lost a step before the second knee injury.

He's had enough of Dana's shit and doesn't need the money.

Dana's right. Props to Conor for being ballsy, props to GSP for being smart, I guess. Wanderlei moved up in weight to fight CropCop, got KOd bad, and it was the beginning of his downfall IMO.

For the record, Anderson moved up twice (three times?) to fight tough light heavyweights while holding the belt, including a former champ.

So I'm not the only one that immediately thought this.

Nick Diaz moved up to fight Anderson tho. No mention of this from Dana

I don't know why I click on any topic that has "Dana White" in the title. I hate that guy and he riles me up.

Also makes Jones look smarter for turning down Sonnen.

Diaz was a supposed to be a "no hope" opponent who was literally out partying when he got the call for this fight. That was supposed to be a showcase for McGregor, and he got embarrassed.

If this is supposed to be a real sport, you can't expect guys at the highest level to live by this "anytime, anywhere" caveman mantra. When you're going against a high-level guy that you haven't prepared for, there's always the possibility that things can go horribly wrong.
