Poirier's answer is perfectly respectable, but it would also be respectable if he had some view about how the company should deal with the scandal. I wouldn't take it for granted that someone who has strong views on the topic would keep them to himself just to avoid rocking the boat, so I don't think it was insane for an interviewer to raise the question.
