Right, some general housekeeping is needed around here. I've seen a fair few posts along the lines of:
"Which other champ has stepped up and won another title in another weight division? Nobody, Connors the Goat"
Now I have nothing against Connor, he's an exciting fighter to watch and his antics are entertaining.
However, for clarity and the benefit of those who started watching MMA in the last few years this may be of interest.
In 2005 Dan Henderson was fighting in Pride FC, Pride was recognised as the premier MMA organisation in the world at the time, he won their Welterweight title (80kgs, roughly equivalent to UFC MW)
Then, whilst still holding that belt he won the Pride Middleweight title (95kgs, roughly equivalent to UFC LHW)
So Dan was the first to hold two premier MMA titles in different weight divisions at the same time. Connor did it in the UFC which is now the premier class. He lost both to Anderson Silva and Quinton Jackson to unify the Pride belts with the UFC belts. Silva and Jackson were both Pride fighters who came to the UFC earlier than Dan and won their respective divisions championships.
