Gastelum is a great refreshment in the MW division. entertaining fighter who goes for the finish. but that defense is abysmal. he ate countless punches from a very gassed jacare,his chin is great but he is very exposed to counter punching. i think him and whitaker will be a great fight but i also think he will get KOed very soon if he doesn't fix that defense
 
Gastelum loses to Whitaker, Romero, and Teh Chris if they rematch. Solid middleweight, but will never be champ.

Jacare will remain as the best win of his career, and he barely won at that.
 
His defense was looking good against The Chris and looked really bad against a super sloppy chin in the air Jacare.

i think he was just gassed he wasn't throwing much in the later rounds and his punches looked weak which is why Jacare never got rocked again

Lol I actually like him. It's hard to believe that he's neck and neck with Chris for a TS. Objectively speaking, he's beaten a lot of past prime 185'ers and Bisping a couple weeks after GSP smashed him. Not even sure how he got the Jacare fight.
 
gastelum is a beast. he put on one hell of a fight against jacare. IMO though, jacare lost due to body language. gastelum is great at taking a big shot and not reacting. jacare was landing some giant shots on gastelum, but gastelum did react and jacare was stumbling and wobbling all over the cage. i think he was shocked by how powerful gastelum was.

major props to gastelum, he turned a corner in this fight. i don't think he deserve a title shot yet. i think he needs to face rockhold or another top MW and get a win. then he deserves a shot.

Yeah but Weidman is 1-3 in his last 4 while Kelvin is 3-1, and The Chris is always hurt.
 
Kelvin needs to go down to WW.. where he is still undersized. Realistically the guy should be a LW

He is doing a disservice to himself by fighting these large men and taking shots

He actually rolls with the punches very well. I’d argue he’s got great defense. He knows what he’s doing..

I totally agree and Rockhold is the fight to make for him.

Kelvin is a legit 170 fighter by today's standards. The fact he is able to hang in at 185 is fucking crazy to me.

He's the new Frankie.

Or he should be praised for not being a pussy that cuts copious amounts of weight for a size advantage. He’s fighting where he’s comfortable and having success at it. Nobody has manhandled or imposed their will on him with the exception of Weidman who’s one of the biggest in the division and KG likely would’ve finished him if not for the bell.

Sometimes a speed advantage >>>>> size advantage.
 
His main issue is he gets caught after combinations cause he keeps his hands so low after. The way he fights is risky since he’s so aggressive anyway and it’s very tiring. He really needs to do better when leaving the pocket after throwing a combo himself ‘cause what he showed against Jacare would get him KO’d by Whittaker right now.

its manly of him, but not good for his career or becoming champion IMO. that mexican heart/chin will only last so long
