News Damir Ismagulov gets cut

He wasnt cut.

Remember he said before after he did that retirement he had one fight left on his contract and wanted to honor it? I think maybe he wanted to just complete it cause maybe he'll get more money in another org

Wouldn't call him a flop - he had a tough schedule and could've went on a long streak with more favourable match ups. The new breed narrative about lw division is still largely accurate as these guys are fighting and losing to one another for the most part.

5-2 at LW is really good

A win over Alvarez is good and will look even better if he wins this weekend
I like Ismagulov but tbf Joel was on his debut fight, was called in very short notice which is awful on a guy who needs to cut a shitload of weight and he was totally off on that fight. Never have I seen Joel throw like 5 punches and a kick on each round.

Rashid Magomedov 2.0

Rashid went 5-1 in UFC and beat Rocco Martin, Burns and Bobby

Damirs grappling got exposed bad. This is an Askarov "retirement" hes not going anywhere.
Rashid was fuckin good! Gave Burns his first loss, and only lose to Dariush, who's wall-and-stall him.

He wanted to leave after the Tsarukyan fight but had another fight to fulfill on his contract.

Damn, bro.

Some people were calling him part of the "new wave" of LWs that could beat the current top guys if given a chance.

Hell, none of them have quite lived up to their hype just yet.
none of them lived up to their hyoe because they all got matched up against each other in close fights, so the winner didnt impress and the loser is a loser. meanwhile, gaethje, chandler and poirier all rank squat and still have upcoming matchuos against each other. crazyy shit

Damir and Gane are two peas in a pod. Gane's just lucky HW is so shallow.

No, it was actually their close competitive fights that lended to this narrative of them being the "new wave" and helped hype them up.

Damir lost to Grant
Guram lost to Elves
Gamrot lost to Beneil
Rafael lost to Gaethje

All were favorites and all lost to the "old guard" or guys that weren't even on the radar.

I'm just looking at that and seeing my point proven, Elves is dangerous and he's another new comer 25 years old with a good camp behind him. Grant is a member of the "new guard" as you are putting it and he took Damir out which is exactly what I said. Gaethjes the only 1 that has defended his spot and then he went right into a rematch with poirier, which isn't the worst fight but it doesn't help any of the new guys which is the current subject of discussion.

Lol, you're seeing what you wanna see.

Grant and Elves weren't on the radar. No one was talking about those guys like they were talking about Damir, Guram, Gamrot, Fiziev. Those guys all lost to underdogs, showing that they didn't live up to the hype.

You gotta fight your way up. On the way, you face guys that are ranked close to you. The best of that group will rise up. Justin and Dustin have earned their spot and the right to face each other.

Gaethje has wins over T-ferg, Cerrone, Barboza, MJ, Chandler, Vick (Damir level at the time IMO) and Fiziev all guys arguably still in their primes.
Poirier has wins over Alvarez, Chandler, McGregor, Hooker, Holloway, Pettis, Miller, Green, Duffy and CDF.

I have no idea why people will still argue that Damir and Guram didn't get a fair shake with match making but Poirier and Gaethje have been absolutely killing the level of guys that Damir and Guram have been scrapping by.

Yeah, that whole narrative needs to die. Sherdog has this incessant need to move on to the next big thing and we get ahead of ourselves.

You have to earn it. Of course you have to fight amongst each other, that's how it SHOULD work.

Rafel and Damir smash Justin,Gamrot beats Beniel,Arman beats most people in the rankings. All things said last year

It's criminal how much people were looking past Grant considering he's been around as a prospect for like 5 years or so, and is undefeated in the UFC with some great performances.

Being from europe makes you so overrated I swear.

Grant was certainly on the radar being unbeaten with close to 10 fights in the UFC before sending Damir home. Grant beat an olympic wrestler who was undefeated in MMA before facing Damir and Grant was favored against Damir in the books too. You also see what you wanna see so it must be close enough on both sides, but that doesn't help with chandler and poirier rank squatting specifically, even if Gaethje gets a pass for now.
