Hello Friends

I mostly post in the war room but I wanted to get some suggestions about schools in the D.C. area. I am playing with moving to D.C. late next year for work.

If I did go I would be looking for a school with a lot of no gi classes that would let me practice heel hooks, cross faces and has lots of mat time. Preferably no warm up. If I want to stretch I can do it on my one. I hate schools that spend the first 20 minutes of a hour class doing push ups.

Also one that let's you start from the feet if you want. I live in San Diego now and train under Baret Yoshida.

Lot's of good bjj in the area:
Ryan Hall's school in Falls Church:

A bit further outside DC is Vanguard Gym:

The majority of the no-gi classes at this gym are taught by Christian Banghart who has a good understanding of the modern leg lock game (see below):

Koa bjj:

These three gyms I know teach the modern leg lock system and have a lot of no-gi. There are a number of good gyms throughout the DC area so look around after moving to the area.

Thanks how far away is say Ryan Hall's gym from D.C. proper?

Falls Church is right next to Arlington, Va and is maybe a 15 minute drive from Georgetown University.

Some other places you could look at:

http://capitalmma.com/loudoun-dulles-va/
http://www.betaacademy.com
http://www.premierfightcenter.com

I'm on the Virginia side and not too familiar with gyms on the Maryland side (thus my suggestions are in Virginia). I'm not sure how much of the modern leg lock game they teach at the places above but could always take a look.

I dropped in a Beta Academy- right in DC- and had a good time. Would go back.

uhh.. why not go to rape choke academy? regardlless of what hes done to women he still has an amazing team to get you better

The foundry in Gaithersburg is great. Was there for only a few months. Got personal attention ton from a BB and it improved my game way more than three years in Japan and two years at another school in Gaithersburg
