D.A.R.E.

Pretty weird to be so against a group that tries to keep kids off drugs.

That's an oversimplified view. They use scare tactics and lie to kids to keep them off the drugs they don't approve of, the problem is this is an incredibly ineffective tactic that's only led to higher rates of drug use since it's been put in to action. If they want to actually educate kids, that's cool, but they're only doing damage to their cause because it's not actually about helping kids but just extending the failed war on drugs in to our classrooms.

DARE was kinda stupid. They talked about weed being a gateway drug and how we are going to see it when we to middle school. I just liked it because we didn’t have to sit and learn about fractions and shit like that. Both were equally worthless.

In fact, you don’t learn shit till you get to college and even then you don’t learn shit about the real world.

In fact... when you get your first worthless job out of college you still don’t learn shit other than learning how much you hate waking up every morning to that same worthless drive to that same worthless job!

In fact...

Wait what were we talking about?

Did you guys know they still have the D.A.R.E. program? I thought they disbanded this program due to the ineffectiveness of it.

Today I went to eat lunch and outside the restaurant DARE had a booth asking for money for the children. I had my cheech and chong shirt. Even though I don't use any illegal substances I told the dude to leave me alone and look at my shirt and kept walking. It was strange and I don't agree with the program at all.

For you guys that don't know DARE here is brief explanation.

Teaching kids to just say no is ineffective and there are studies done that say DARE may even increase tobacco and alcohol use among kids.

Another thing that I disagree with is having a police officer teaching my children. I grew up in a Law Enforcement household and I even am in federal law enforcement. Seriously, I don't want any of those guys teaching my children. Anyway, DARE is stupid and I disagree with it, even though they are indoctrinating my children.

Man I member when the cop came to class, and they handed around the examples of drugs, sealed in plexy glass. So weird. The fear mongering on weed definitely sticks out in the memory. They basically equated it to heroine.

Best way to keep kids off drugs is for all drug users to wear pins of the drugs they take. Once the kids see what these drugs make you look like, they would never start the hard shit. “Oh look at that rat looking woman covered in shit and zits”...yep son look at the meth pin.

This is all I know and need to know about DARE.

I didn’t even know what meth was until my 6th grade class D.A.R.E..... Solid teaching from our solid school system.

dare didn't do shit for me. still used drugs and currently smoking pot.

I remember being taken out of the classroom and scolded because I asked the D.A.R.E. officer about a girl asking me if she should have sex online, I was 10 at the time and genuinely curious about how to handle that situation. I figured if they're going to talk to us about drugs and violence, sex would probably fit in there too. They acted like I took a shit and held it up in front of everyone. So I never got an answer and was afraid to go to anybody about the subject after that because I didn't want to be punished again.

Dare officers are pricks

They did that exact thing for sex edducation about STDs in my City they showed Gay people with bad breath and scars from STDs herps etc.

Dare sparked my interest in mind altering substances at an early age as it intended to do.

Do you have data that says DARE itself has led to higher rates of drug use or does the data just say that drug use has gone up since the mid 80's or whenever DARE was founded? I highly doubt that there is any correlation.

I agree when I smoked my first joint at maybe 14 years old I didn't think back on my years of D.A.R.E classes and their scare tactics at all. their classes became even less effective when I smoked the joint and nothing bad happened I figured I had been lied to.
