i just read that story about his weight cut on the front page. get fighters like that out of the ufc. no one reads that and feels bad or thinks its an excuse. get that guy out of the ufc.

** this is also a i hate weight cutting thread/ no tolerance for weight cutting excuses/ pushing to this point. not a i hate brian ortega thread. he just highlighted the problem.

Or maybe instead of cutting him they should just, you know, force him to move up to LW?

I appreciate Brian's willingness to still get in the cage and compete but honestly if he actually went unconscious for 30 minutes the medical professionals probably should have stepped in and refused to medically clear him to fight.
 
I like Brian and don't want to see him get cut, but he's starting to show possible signs of CTE. Maybe a fight or two at 155 with someone like Paddy or Dariush then ride off into the sunset while your brain is still functioning.
 
You cut him and then he cuts weight at a less professional org and dies.

dramatizing the weight cut is the worst.
what he describes is idiotic and scary

these guys blame the weight classes they blame injury ect. well there are guys who never miss weight and they deal with the same things. the difference is they account for that and dont cut such a high amount of weight. he should be forced to move up in weight and be monitored during his cuts. these guys will push near death and organ failure for a 5 lb advantage . its one of the worst parts of the sport.

So the ufc should keep him employed because he chooses not to fight in the right weight class?

He's expressed the desire to go up to 155 a few times. We don't know what the UFC is doing behind the scenes here. Remember when they forces Dustin to go back to 145 for a while? Could be something similar.
 
I dunno, the dude wanted to go to LW, UFC didn't like it. I think Ortega is going to be tiny at LW and lose, but there is a weird situation around him still at FW. Even in his prime he would lose fights until he won, but now it just seems like he just loses. He should retire anyways, but UFC should just feed him to LWs and cut after a couple losses. We don't know what happened behind the doors with Ortega and the UFC.
 
Ortega fights are uncomfortable to watch. He's made a career out of looking terrible at weight ins then going onto getting badly outboxed and beat to shit. Whether its the UFC keeping him light or his own decision really doesn't change that he should hang em up or his brains are going to be mush.

What's funny is when he helped save a ppv last year he said after he was moving to LW so confused as to why his still competing at FW
