can any one tell me a website where they sell em'. (thanks)

ordered mine from protech but their site is down or under construction i think? I did a search and it came up with their myspace page, you could send them a message there
MySpace.com - PROTECH MOUTHGUARDS - 37 - Male - Laguna Hills, US - www.myspace.com/protechmouthguards
I recall the name gladiator guards aswell, looked em up and came up with this site:
Customguards.com - Protect Your Winning Smile
I would check out the reviews on here first before making a decision on which company to go with, there may be others

Check the G and E reviews section or use the search function.

There are two guys around this forum that people primarily use: Jeff at starsguards.com and Scott at customguards.net. From my research, both offer a high quality product, and are cheaper than most any other custom manufacturer out there.

I personally endorse Scott as he is making my guard because his brand is less expensive. I don't really see either of them as being the wrong way to go, they both offer great products and great customer service.

They're around here all the time in the guard threads, or just look up their websites, call them, and tell them you found them through reviews on Sherdog.

(Note to people who organize the threads: Maybe we could get a consolidation of the guard threads into a sticky? One stop shopping for guard info. Just a thought.)

I have one from Protech that I got a few years back, they did a custom thing for me so it has a pattern like the head of a Badger (yes I love Badgers :)

But i have to say the Stars Guards look nice too, I might try one someday.

My main compliant is that I like the breathing hole that many of the cheap mouthguards have but the customs don't, so I molded mine to have a little space under the front teeth for breathing when my mouth is shut, my nose is crappy so often I have to mouth breathe :(

Do a search for Protech and you'll see that they're long gone, and even if Tom came back he owes dozens of people mouth guards (myself included) and you'd find yourself in a long line. He won't be back though, it's been a year since any communication from him.

Stars Guards looks to make an excellent quality custom.

were you refunded or what happened there? did he get away with your money? I'm very surprised to hear about all the bad experiences people have had with Protech as mine was great, sounds like they went downhill FAST

They made the best guards out there at the time, but I just have no idea what happened. I ordered 2 and never saw a dime of it back (right around 300 bucks). Multiply that by the dozens of people he stiffed and it's a pretty handsome sum he made off with.

On a brighter note, hopefully people can learn from that and if a company seems to have issues returning calls, or getting a product out in a timely manner, steer clear. Plus, had I follwed the number one rule of Sherdog, "Use the Search Function", I'd have seen others were having trouble getting their guards long before I was.

So basically, I'd say these are the most important things to remember when it comes to mouthguards:

1) Your boil and bite won't even be as good as a lower quality custom.

2) Do your homework. While Sherdog and other forums are full of idiots posting about Pride>UFC, or Houston Alexander = GOAT, the Gear and Equipment discussion seems to almost always have people who care about what they're posting and thus it's a great place to learn about mouthguards or other stuff you might want to purchase.

3) Custom Mouthguards are expensive, but worth every penny once you've tried one. So, save your pennies if that custom guard isn't in your budget right now, because the fit and the protection it offers over a cheap one, will more than pay for itself in the long haul.

I had actually ordered 2 Protech guards right about the time Tom decided to flee with everyone's money. I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau and also a dispute with PayPal. I successfully won the PayPal arbitration and was rewarded with what remained in Protech's paypal account, approx $62, so he still skated with about $150 of mine if i recall correctly.

I don't even feel stupid, since at the time there was still occasional contact with the Protech team, and due to their prior reputation for quality many here were willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Oh well, live and learn :)

I just got a Jawzz guard and I'm very happy with it. Fits great.

go stars or customguards.net. i have one from jeff and i love it and i am waiting on my new one from custom, the customer service from both was above and beyond

go with stars guards. top customer service and top quality guards.

I just got the impression kit from Jawzz.com today. They have been really great about answering my emails etc. and staying in touch. I would definitely recommend them.

If you have any questions pertaining to what type of guard to purchase give me a call. I want push my product on you but I will give you an honest run down on the various types and what would work best for you depending on what you are doing. I've had several guys come to me wanting the Pro guards but have talked them down to the Semi-Pro guards. It's not the money it's the customer satisfaction and making sure you don't over spend for the type of sport you are doing. Take care.
