Where can I get custom gi patches printed and what method & fabric should I use?

I want to make some custom patches with my grappling club's (@ college) logo on it to patch on my gis.

And maybe some RVCA logos too because I love RVCA but idk if it would be a good idea...

Best patches. They never wear out. They use dye sublimation so the due is imbedded into the fabric, not printed on top like traditional screen printing. Seriously check them out.

NHB and X-Guard will ask you for an authorization letter from the company making sure that you are allowed to use their logos

Well there goes that. Not surprised though, so idc.

Will definitely get some RVCA stickers to put on my surfboard and laptop though... I think that's a different and more acceptable story even though it is somewhat the same idea.

Thanks for the NHB link though.

From what I know, patches can be made in one of three ways:
1. Screen printed onto a sheet of canvas cloth
2. dye sub printed onto synthetic cloth with backing to make it stiff
3. Embroidered onto twill and backing added.

I'm sure there are other techniques but those seem to be the main ones.

I've researched prices and patches for couple years for various clients. Dye sub printed patches can be made singly, or in large numbers. They are very durable and will not fade, crack or peel over time. The colours in my opinion tend not to be very strong though, it depends on the design. Basic reds, blacks, whites etc are ok but if you have a design with lots of gradients, lighter tone colours and photo-realistic images, they don't turn out so good imo.

Screen printed patches are generally not so durable, eventually deteriorating over time, but they are very cheap if you order a bunch from a good general screen printers. You pay by the colour so stick to basic designs.

Embroidered patches are by comparison the more expensive option, again you can get one made or hundreds, just depends on what you are willing to pay. Again, you pay by colour number, thread count, and extras like plastic backing or not and other frills.

Hope this helps. Oh and you are not technically allowed to use a trademarked logo without permission, but for personal use, who's gonna know?

Personally I don't think it's a good idea to patch your gi up with other brands that aren't sponsoring you/aren't originally the company of the gi itself. Team patches, the original gi company's patches, and symbolic patches are fine, but when it comes to brands you support, the patches kind of lessen the value of the rest of the patches.

Having an Alliance patch on your back next to an RVCA patch just kind of makes people question why you have the patches on your gi.

But that's just my take on it, don't let me deter you from having whatever the hell you want on it. I have a Street Fighter patch of Ken on one of my gis. (not my comp gi of course haha)

That reminds me of a picture I saw, the guy was wearing the CTRL Industries blue and yellow Gi, and he had 4 or 5 SYR patches all over it... Fake it till you make it lol.

Added pic.

How's it going, guys. Just saw this thread. We pioneered the use of dye sublimation for gi patches. I have to respectfully disagree with my friend, Meerkatsu, that the colors are muted or that complex gradients don't look good. With the specialized process, equipment and inks in NHB Gear's evil lab, we are able to almost perfectly reproduce our customers' artwork in full digital color. Here are some photos. $5 for 3 custom patches? That sounds ridiculously cheap, what dimensions? Also whats the price and specs on the custom rash guards?

Maybe we should raise the price?? For the custom gi patches we have a few sizes. Most people go with 1 back patch and 2 lapel or pants patches.

Too many variables to list custom rash guard prices here. It depends on long sleeve or short sleeve, if its full sublimation or just logos, how many panels, kids size rash guards or adult. We do both mens and womans rash guards too. Also how many you order we do short runs but but larger runs get bulk orders get wholesale pricing on rash guards and fight shorts.

Also our custom rash guards and gi patches are made in the USA so we can give very fast turn arounds.

Just call or emails we will get a mock up done at not charge and then quote you a price.

thanks!
