This is such a weird roster. It's a bizarre mix of legends coming out of retirement, most semi name fighters who've been released from UFC, Bellator or PFL over the last couple of years, some regional journeyman and some really top prospects and fighters in their prime like Musayev.

Good on Hawes for changing his record so it's easier on the eyes.

This has been a mess. They announced a lot of fighters they haven’t signed and got nationalities wrong for them. Not a good look days before this even starts to take place.

I wonder how serious some of these coaches and managers are taking this draft.

I'm assuming the GFL sends out some type of bio on each of these guys, maybe even some vids to each team. At least I hope they would because I don't think many of them have the time to research a lot of fighters or the desire.

You'd also think on their site there would be at least full list of fighters available and not just more or less the named guys.

That’s a good catch. I highly doubt Wanderlei, for example, is spending hours upon hours researching regional fighters he’s never heard of.

That is a great roster... for 2019.

Honestly.. I would love for them to thrive but this looks more and more like a complete shitshow. I would be surprised if 10% of those fighters end up actually fighting

Retirees, cans, and retired cans?

A decent start and a few promising prospects. They will have a secured future only when a 1/3 - 33% of their fighters will be 10-0 12-1 14-2 7-0 prospects like fighters. Not enough prospects, too much old retired cans. But we will support GFL as much as we can.

I wish they would sign fighters like Khotam Boynazarov (10-0), and others with similar record and skills, like "Honey" Vladislav Rudnev (10-0).
The world is full of talents, talents everywhere, the future belongs to who secure them first.

Glory to GFL ! Death to the evil UFC monopoly !

If you read this message, may god bless you and your family !

shit would just be better off calling it Legends MMA or something and just doing it as a reg org but with known legends, casts offs, anyone from UFC/Bellator/PFL/Rizin/One who has any sort of name.

mma fans are more nostalgic than other sports fans, not saying they'll buy PPV or nothing but take away UFC brand and put an apex show against a show that has Bendo/Tyron and Mousasi/Rockhold, JDS/Duffee, Lee/Pettis, Gus/Romero and alot of fans are gonna pick that.

The team shit is stupid, its not gonna work, nobody is invested in that but if they just went with straight mma with just legends and names from past maybe there is something there. It all depends on what rights deal they can get and can they build an audience to buy tickets.

Let's be honest, their roster is awful. Some guys retired years ago, some are coaches, podcasters, some retired because they were seriously injured (Thiago Santos for example)
Who are the fighters we know are quite good? JDS and Belcher had an OK fight in Masvidal's promotion. Phil Hawes is a good fighter. Mousasi and Douglas Lima may still be good enough. Abubakar, Lins, Giagos, and Fighter Kevin Lee might still be OK as they are still training consistently in serious gyms.
The draft will be friends and teammates for sure, maybe Ed Soares / Joinho will put their guys in Sao Paulo or LA, maybe Ali Abdelaziz will lead the casting for Dubai and ATT and the Kahwa brothers will lead the draft of the Miami team
I expect a shit show with vets gassing out in R1, strikers with zero ground game. Maybe one team will take it seriously (NYC? London?) and draft good in-shape fighters outside gym and management rationale, and they will take the trophy
It might be the worst global promotion

@koalaI think you're being pretty unfair to the potential roster. Now, if they just end up filling the rosters with old guys, then you're ultimately right. But there's more than enough good, talented, and/or young names shown on the roster list.

Damir Ismagulov, Lucas Miletich, Masoud Safari, Veronika Barisova, Hayley Valentine, Nayib Lopez, Eric Alequin, Emin Sharifow, Lucas Clay, Mahomet Kabardiev, Rosario Orozco, Mahomet Akeav, Gamlet Asanov, Mahomet Yunusilau, Rakhim Medeav, etc...

Let's just hope there's people smart enough to pick them over washed vets.

Haley Valentine looks like an absolute fraud to me. She went to a split with a girl who's 0-6 now.

Paulo Portillo is Uruguayan and they posted a graphic with him with the Uruguayan flag and then posted he's from Argentina. He told me Sunday after the announcement that he wasn't signed. They reached out to him and negotiated, but he wasn't signed so he wasn't sure why they would make the announcement.

Looks like a lot of work getting these people signed. Yet I feel watching this develop glued like a natural disaster developing. Surprisingly a few decent mixed in...

[omg1]

At least now you have a few good fighters per weight class
Kenny Mokohoana is in the GFL draft today and fighting in the PFL Dubai card tomorrow <lol>

So basically PFL is now the new Bellator, and GFL is now the new PFL?

Ali Wasuk is in the draft and got finished last night.

I want them to draft someone who’s signed with another promotion and isn’t signed to them just to see how they spin it.
