Current Active Sambo Fighters In The UFC!?

Sems like FIAS holds World Championsip and FILA holds World Cup.

Is one more prestigious? I know in wrestling world cup is usually team based where world championships is individual, World championship is a considerably more important medal.

What's the difference betweem World cup and world Championships?

Yeah, I noticed the different kind of world titles/accomplishments before. I wonder if there is a big difference in competition level between the two, or difference in qualifying criteria, or if they are basically just the same people competing under a different org.

Oh yeah, team based does make sense. Man, it would be cool to attend one of those events.

@Ogata Shavkat is a Master of Sport in Combat Sambo, according to a quick wiki search.

I would assume Umar has at least some experience in it, if not just a lot. I'd just look for all Dagistani fighters and check for their backgrounds, to start off with. Then Russians in general, then Central Asians, then Eastern Euros.

(@Ogata lets turn this into a stats list thread?)

Pat Sabatini 145lbs Sambo USA
Saidyokub Kakhramonov 135lbs Sambo Uzbekistan (won Bronze at World championships)
Merab Dvalishvili 135lbs Sambo Georgia (won Silver at the World championships)

I remember reading that under which Fedor was champion was more like a sports org while where Khabib was champ was more trashy, with guys starting fights and people threating judges with weapons. But maybe it's not true.

There' seems to be several different orgs that hold different world championships and world cups, Combat Sambo doesn't seem very unified.

Blagoy Ivanov 2008 World Combat Sambo HW champion

Beat Fedor in the semis I'm pretty sure

There definitely is I'd wager, it's hard to dig up sometimes but certain Sambo world championships have pretty damn good representation and some actual coverage in english and whatnot with streaming. I think the one Merab and Saidyokub competed in was FIAS, that seems to be the major one? Although if you check wiki for some guys he doesn't specify which it just says "Sambo world champion" and other times it specifies and there's not always recordings but it seems FIAS world championship travels and gets the most coverage and stuff.

When Umar won second World Championship? English Wiki states that he won one in 2015.
Ankalaev -- Russian Wiki only says that he is a Master of Sport in it.

And yeah, found that in 2010 there happened 3 World Championships in 2 of which Khabib competed and won them.

Ankalaev English wiki says Dagestan Cup Sambo champion.

Sorry on Umar, it was Gold in amateur MMA world championships directly under the gold in Sambo world championships, I didn't notice. Weird how Russia has these amateur world championship tournaments but they aren't sanctioned or put down on records?

The only ufc fighter with pure combat sambo (NOT sambo) base il Isalm. Usman and many others have Freestyle Wrestling base and after cs or pankration/amma experience.

I guess Sherdog and Tapology want officials to send them results?
I remember seeing that cousin of Ismagulov doesn't have Sherdog/Tapology page yet on Russian website Valetudo.ru he has 3 amateur fights under his record. I think if you want or goes to website of this amateur MMA org you can find results of all this Amateur cups/championships of village/city/Oblast/Republic etc.

Someone needs to pay me to do such things lol.

I am pretty sure I read that Islam said that he trained Taekwando and it was his first martial arts. Shortly after it he moved to Sanda.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna have to look into it more. Would be cool if there is at least some decent production quality for a real world cup or champonship. The cup seems the most lucrative though, because national pride glues eyes to the screen like no other. Just look at the soccer world cup. So wouldn't be suprised if you could find a nice broadcast or maybe even a documentary on it. Though subtitles will most likely be a must. Lol. Otherwise I stil won't give a fuck. All I really care about is good visuals of the action. But being able to identify the athletes is important too, of course. So tale of the tape would be appreciated. Though Cyrillic letters can make things a bit tricky, but if need be, there can always be a thread made on here to have some Sherbros do some translating.
