International Cuban coast guard kills 4 americans

More info is out on our hero's

"Cuban exile Michel Ortega Casanova wanted to go to war against the Cuban regime to inspire the people to revolt, Wilfredo Beyra, a member of the Cuban Republican Party in Tampa, Florida, told AFP. The 54-year-old truck driver reportedly told Beyra about his plans several times before heading south in a small motorboat on Wednesday.

Ortega Casanova is being hailed as a martyr by Cuban exiles on social media after he was killed by the Cuban coast guard, who say all ten people on board the boat he was traveling in in Cuban waters were armed and fired the first shots.

To die for the fatherland is to live,” writes the Cuban association Casa Cuba in Tampa over his portrait. According to Michel’s brother Misael Ortega Casanova, he wanted to free the island from the communist regime.

“They became so obsessed that they didn’t think about the consequences or their own lives,” he told the AP.

I say we just chalk this up to an unfortunate incident. I don't want to start a war with any country. Heck.... Cuba is already on the verge of collapsing. What's the point?

It's because of how bad things are getting in Cuba. Those people love the Cuban people. Many have family still there, have roots.

For some reason our leftist media doesn't want to talk about Cuba. This is another example of the great communist experiment, after all: left-wing economic ideology in its most extreme and purest form. Well, they're starving. Probably ~25% of Cubans have fled the country since 2021. You would, too. A few kilos of beans and rice costs ~30% of the median monthly salary, right now. Without virtually free Venezuelan oil to prop them up, their communist economy can't function. It's nonviable.

Meanwhile, Capitalist Miami is utterly thriving. That's where the majority of Cubans have fled and settled since this whole experiment began. They started businesses in the capitalist USA. Their businesses flourished. Cubans back home started businesses in communist Cuba. Their businesses have gone extinct.

except if its under a heavy series of embargoes by the regional hegemon and by far the biggest market and potential trading partner in the region- not just curtailing trade with that hegemon but also trade with other neighbours and potential partners- it isn't a 'pure' form of anything, because the deck is stacked against it from the start.

No nation can be successful under those conditions. I'm no advocate for capitalism but if, for a 'capitalist' country under the same circumstances of an all-encompassing trade embargo, somebody were to point to that nation's failures as a exemplar that Capitalism Doesn't Work, that person would be very very stupid.

Well looks like it was a case of FAFO and the Cuban CG were probably telling the truth.

Damn. Out of all the possibilities, that was not one I was thinking.

Dudes had some fucking balls though.

You gotta be a special kind of retard if you think its a good idea to invade Cuba with 9 of your friends.

Imagine planning this for month or even years and not once say "hey guys maybe this is not such a good idea"

Nobody claims Cuba is a great place I certainly dont.
But being a middle age out of shape man thinking you are going to invade Cuba with 9 buddies.
Their heart might have been in the right place but their brains sure wasn't.

Never said he was smart.

If dude loved his homeland and people so much he was willing to give up an easy life in the US for certain death back home...

I'm sure plenty of successful revolutionaries were special kinds of retards at first

After the Cuban Coast Guard stopped firing, I suspect neither his heart nor his brains were in the right place. Or even inside his body. ;)

I keep saying that some of these Florida Cubans are the worst people around.

Almost jihadi-like fanaticism against the Cuban government.

When they become US citizens, they're largely single-issue voters: which party/candidate will be the most aggressive towards Cuba, is their only concern.

Huge balls and a fatally stupid plan.

We've circled back to Florida men doing Florida man stuff.
