Martinez came to the U.S. on a raft at 18 in search for a better life

Fernando Martinez, a business owner in downtown Louisville, Ky., took part in a demostration Sunday with fellow members of the Cuban community and expressed solidarity with Black Lives Matter protesters even after he called their recent demands in the city “mafia tactics.”

The Louisville Courier-Journal reported that business owners in the area received letters from protesters that included a list of demands to improve diversity in the community and in the workplace. The paper cited a press release that said the letter was delivered by protesters who told Martinez to put it on his front door so “your business is not f***ed with.”

The paper reported that Martinez, who is a partner of the Ole Restaurant Group and came to the U.S. on a raft at age 18, was not the only business owner who received the letter and he took to Facebook to write, "There comes a time in life that you have to make a stand and you have to really prove your convictions and what you believe in. All good people need to denounce this. How can you justified (sic) injustice with more injustice?”

The paper reported that some of the demands laid out in the letter included a minimum of 23 percent of the staff being Black and buying at least 23 percent of their goods from Black-owned retailers, to name a few.

The city, like many across the U.S., has seen anti-police protests. The protests in Louisville have largely called for justice for Breonna Taylor.

Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman, was fatally shot when police officers burst into her Louisville apartment using a no-knock warrant in the early morning hours of March 13 during a narcotics investigation. The warrant to search her home was in connection with a suspect who did not live there and no drugs were found inside.

The paper reported that about 100 members of the city’s Cuban community gathered in front of Martinez’s newest restaurants in the area known as NuLu.

The paper said Martinez gave a passionate speech and talked about how his restaurant is open to everybody. At one point, he said, “How can I be called a bigot and a racist when my family is Black? When my son is gay? I’m the proud father of a gay son, and I’m gonna fight for him against anybody.”

Sadiqa Reynolds, the president and CEO of the Louisville Urban League, took to Facebook to say that she will no longer eat at the restaurant and wonders why “any human, other than a racist, would choose this time to tell us how little our lives matter.”

Trying to extort Cubans, haven't these people seen Scarface? They may not be Rooftop Koreans but they'll introduce you to their little friends.

Way to win hearts and minds BLM. Nothing like community outreach.

As one of the first waves of Cuban immigrants into Kentucky I applaud this man. We know the communist tactics shit I knew people who came
up with these tactics... and in Cuba we have no choice but in this great country, it’s a wrap

Ironically the majority of these protesters are white liberals. The cringe seeing these idiots in "black lives matter" T-Shirts and screaming about racism is as cringy and as pathetic as the new Cats movie.

These soy boys are the result of giving all kids trophies for participating. They grow up to be these types of losers.

He said "mafia tactics."

You do realize that the revolution specifically displaced actual American mafias in Cuba, right? The mafias ran Havana and had their shit expropriated by the new government.

Jesus, you're helpless.

Not going to lie but if BLM are making these demands its kind of fucked up and their message is being lost.

I would have rather seen Cuba become the Las Vegas of the Caribbean...no the Monaco of the Caribbean with wealth and opportunity than the shit it is now. Sorry my 1st world read it but don’t live it American comrade, we don’t agree again

Most ironically is that they wouldn’t survive 24 hours under their trained Marxist agenda. These guys (as you can see by one of the replies) think it’s all roses and and everyone sitting in a collective circle sigining kumbaya. Once they realize there’s no internet, Starbucks, or freedom...oh how I wish I could see their faces

I want to start a kind of outreach program which I would personally donate thousands into where we take these people on a field trip if you will...Cuba, Venezuela...Caracas should be nice this time of year and let them fend for themselves for 24 hours. Hmmm on second thought that would election tampering since everyone comes back voting republican...

At this point I'm genuinely surprised that more "protestors" haven't been shot by business owners.

"Put this in your window so your business doesn't get fucked with." Sounds like a demand and a threat all in one to me.

He should have told the dude to make sure his business doesn't get fucked with or he'd hold him personally accountable for the damages.

People can believe what they want, I don't really have a problem with that. What I do find laughable is when someone that hasn't grown up in a country governed under communist, marxist, socialist rule tries to argue with someone that has about what its "really like or supposed to be".

You pop your head out of the sand long enough to stick up for marxists. Stop getting hung up on the wording. These wannabe communist, Che Guevera, soy boys aredoing just what the mob did. Pay up or we will harass and hurt your business. Youre so fucking smart, yet have no clue. Or at least pretend to be that way.

Of course it is.

"You either visibly and publicly back this movement or you are fair game. We may well destroy your business and/or life".

Its the oldest trick in the book. Obedience through fear of retribution. And they might still burn your fucking business down even if you do support 'the cause'.

No different to fucking Fascist uprisings in the past.

A lot of reading on the internet about it and not living it for starters

I mean we are talking about a group of people who wanted to “boycott” the largest and longest Hispanic owned business in the United States over some flattery towards the president. There’s no compromise or reasoning with these people....as Bezmenov said even if you put in their faces the undeniable truth, they still won’t believe it. It’s going to take a couple of generations to fix what we are seeing today. Yet I’m glad to see that there are millions of Americans just out of fucks

They're just cannon fodder. For a movement like this to truly succeed in overthrowing the power structure, it needs shitloads of boots on the ground raising havoc. There are not many card-carrying Commies out there, really.....but there are fuckloads of young, bored, angry, frustrated wimps who identify as somehow being victimised or marginalised by society in some way. So tell them that this isn't about a political movement, its about social justice. Give them an enemy and tell them that if that enemy is eliminated, they won't feel victimised anymore. Job done. Cannon fodder, ahoy.

The champagne socialist wants their cake and to eat it too

Telling Americans to buy from certain groups not because the goods are superior, less expensive, or produced in a favorable way. No... Buy from a certain race because Hands up Don't Shoot.

This is a attitude some blacks tend to have with "diversity." They believe they are the only diversity that matters. I remember having a conversation with a black co-workers on how Orange County was diverse. I explained that it has larger Asian Latino and Middle eastern population and was very diverse. But they felt because it didn't have a significant black population it wasn't really "diverse". So I find it funny how they are calling for diversity from a Cuban immigrant.
