Criticism of Khabib’s performance UFC 223

I usually like Joe’s commentary but that night it was piss poor. I’m talking specifically in the main event. Every time Khabib threw a strike at Iaquinta he’d criticize Khabib and his game plan. But any time Al even threw a punch that barely grazed Khabib, he’d say Khabib has holes in his game. I don’t get it would you rather have a specialist in one aspect in MMA or have well rounded mixed martial artist. lol and people said Khabib was exposed. When did 50-44 mean exposed?

I watched that card with French commentaries and couldn't understand why so many people on Sherdog criticized Khabib's performance when Iaquinta couldn't do shit, even for the two full rounds that were pure stand-up. Commentaries can have a serious impact on our perception and it shows on occasions like this.

Sure Al was overmatched and ineffective, but Khabib’s striking was sloppy as hell, and he never really hurt the #11 ranked guy or came close to finishing him over 25 minutes of fighting, and he got a championship for it. Joe’s commentary may have been a bit out of line, but Khabib definitely showed that his striking still has a lot of room for improvement.

He (and others) were likely just saying that stuff because most expected Khabib to run through Iaquinta with ease, likely resulting in an early stoppage. It was just a criticism for not finishing him really.

No holes were really exposed that we didn't already know about, but they were still clearly there. Fact is that khabib has a very unrefined standup game for the level of fighter that he is, and when conor mcgregor is the fight that people are calling for, it is very relevant to point out khabibs flaws in the standup. Idk who would win that fight, but it will be a complete mismatch for every second that they are standing (much like it would be a complete mismatch once khabib gets ahold of connor).

Khabib is such a great fighter overall that maybe none of the current fighters at his weight will be able to expose his flaws in the striking department, but it doesn't mean that they aren't there.

Nothing really comes to mind, most of them just translate what they find on American sites. Maybe La Sueur? They are not dedicated to MMA only, but they seem to have all the right news.
