***Crickets**** Korean Zombie

Some of the injuries he's discussed kind of took the promise out of his future. His body of work is still wonderful to revisit and I'm sure he can be a problem for a good chunk of the current roster, but best days seem like they're gone.

I mean, it's not unlike Cub Swanson. I'm a fan, he looked so great before the Giga fight, I thought he'd be back. But nah, the current elite talent is just too far ahead. Time waits for no man, especially in this ruthless sport.

Man, you really missed the point here.
Lol wud? I know better than most what he's been through career wise

I spelled out the bottom line for you. In the end, the vast majority won't care about his story it's what he's doing here and now

against Ige he laid and prayed People aren't likely going to want to see that from someone like KZ

that's the point

He's realistically one big win from a title shot. KZ vs. Allen seems like the very logical fight to make, but both guys are always injured, so lining up their schedules might be a pain. If Kattar beats Giga in January, Kattar vs. KZ would be a great option, too.
The weasel has the opinion that he's over the hill not by age but battle worn
Well he lost to Ortega which set him back for sure. Beating Ige isn't just going to throw you into title contention. I't doesn't help that all the people he beat since his return are either retired, left the division and are on losing streaks.

I like KZ a lot but he's in kind of a shitty position right now. It really did feel like the UFC was setting him up for a titlefight with a win over Ortega. They even wanted that fight to be the main-event in Korea. Ortega came in and fought a smart fight. He will need to fight someone ranked pretty high or with a big name otherwise he wont get the titleshot. I kinda hope Zabit makes his return soon so that both can fight. Would be the perfect fight for both parties.
I disagree though It was the manner in which he beat Ige that gave the fight less merit

if he had throttled Ige I probably wouldn't have made this thread but because it was an out of character (or sign of the times you be the judge) lackluster "technically pleasing " victory he gets docked

He has lost a little something in his style since Yiar slept him with that last second elbow. It's probably something mental but he definitely lost something important after that fight.

I feel like his buzz has subsided and is inadvertently being punished by brass for his new safe boring style

he's rarely discussed as an option for any major Matchups even though he's clearly present and waiting and there are many to be had Where his name was regularly mentioned he isn't now He is admittedly at the cusp of elite fights and gatekeeper type fights Perhaps his demands have gotten tiresome

what's his immediate future ? Should he retire ?

He failed against Ortega. Who failed against Holloway and Alex. Why should anybody care anymore?

I suppose if you hate MMA. It was a masterful performance against an elite fighter.
I don't hate MMA and even appreciated seeing the diversity of his ground game against an elite wrestler.

When I think back on it though I doubt I'd rewatch it for shits and giggles

You are not alone
the weasel shares this exact sentiment

I'm still a fan...but as mentioned injuries, time away, etc. seem to have eaten a good bit of his shine.

Not sure he will hold the same perception or measure up to what we first saw again.

I'd never sit through 25 minutes of Randy Couture vs Tim Sylvia again, but I was glued to the TV with excitement when I watched it live.

Gaethje is a crowd pleaser and I think so is KZ

I think Ige was his first crowd since COVID

he dusted Frankie and I think being in front of a home crowd (Seoul) had a lot to do with that Does he he dust Frankie like that again? In a different place like Vegas ?

I think UFC brass understands this all too well

would brass prefer a 10 second KO fight or a drawn out decision like KZ Ige?

I meant relatively speaking He isn't as violent as he used to be and he fought safely against Ige

it wouldn't surprise me in the least some at the top are less than thrilled

He hasn't been going balls to the wall since he got KO'd by Roop 11 years ago....

He's been picking his shots against everyone except Yair because he had to close the distance and not give him room for his kicks. you simply don't know what you are talking about.

Everything is meant relatively
Sure he's been a bit more careful but he still leads with his head in most cases And he's been fairly aggressive. He got a taste of ige's leather and took it to the ground You're really only as good as your last fight and I think his shine being lost has a lot do with his last performance.

He's still rehabbing his shoulder that got popped in the Ige fight that's why he's yet to be booked:

Quote from the article:

"So… where is “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung at these days? Well, he’s still in Korea dealing with the shoulder injury suffered in his fight against Dan Ige back in June. His coach Eddie Cha recently told me “Zombie” received stem cell injections in his shoulder and plans to head to Phoenix to Fight Ready MMA to start working his way back to form."

Zombie vs Tony would be cool be cool for fun

I think KZ’s title chances are probably gone. He’ll be there for some exciting fights, and sadly, as he progresses down that role, he’ll be fed to an up and coming monster as a big name win. He’ll be a hall of famer though.

Does a anybody think kz was winning more convincingly vs yar than max was before the weird KO?

A big problem with zombie is that he seems to be a step behind
He lost ortega who suffered a beating from max and alex(besides the submission attempts),got knocked out to yair in a fight he was winning
He is always "one or two fights away from the title shot"
Anyway, his fights are amazing and i hope he fights more, tho 34 and getting constantly injured is not a good sign

Zombie vs Kattar should happen.

If not he should fight an up and comer like Allen or Mitchell
