I feel like his buzz has subsided and is inadvertently being punished by brass for his new safe boring style

he's rarely discussed as an option for any major Matchups even though he's clearly present and waiting and there are many to be had Where his name was regularly mentioned he isn't now He is admittedly at the cusp of elite fights and gatekeeper type fights Perhaps his demands have gotten tiresome

what's his immediate future ? Should he retire ?

I think the fact that he lost to an (extremely improved!) Ortega, when most, me included, thought he'd run through him, hurt his stock, though i find it hard to tell you, to which extent exactly.

I think you're right in that he seems to be super rarely discussed as a potential opponent currently, though this might have also to do with the fact that most eyes are on Alex, Max and Yair right now, with the former two being ahead of everyone.

He's still rehabbing his shoulder that got popped in the Ige fight that's why he's yet to be booked:

Quote from the article:

"So… where is “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung at these days? Well, he’s still in Korea dealing with the shoulder injury suffered in his fight against Dan Ige back in June. His coach Eddie Cha recently told me “Zombie” received stem cell injections in his shoulder and plans to head to Phoenix to Fight Ready MMA to start working his way back to form."

Did he indeed get his eye surgery complete ?

Lots of talk but havent seen whether or not he actually got it done

Safe and boring? His fight against Ige was pretty good and he even dropped him. He can't 1 hitter quitter everyone he fights lol
I meant relatively speaking He isn't as violent as he used to be and he fought safely against Ige

it wouldn't surprise me in the least some at the top are less than thrilled

He's ALWAYS injured. But yeah, seems like the UFC does jerk him around quite a bit.

He doesn't have a "new boring style", by the way. He's always been incredibly well rounded. When his shoulder popped in his last fight, he had to make adjustments and he did. That's the sign of a good fighter if you ask me.

were you thrilled with his victory over Ige? Were you wow'd ? Do you think people would pay to watch that continuing ? Noob casual or not

Thats been taken care of before the Ortega fight. He popped his shoulder in the Ige fight and he's healing from that.

He has been begging for a 3 round fight for awhile now, how about one of those vs Giga as a co main on a numbered card. Zombie doesn't have to headline every card.

He's realistically one big win from a title shot. KZ vs. Allen seems like the very logical fight to make, but both guys are always injured, so lining up their schedules might be a pain. If Kattar beats Giga in January, Kattar vs. KZ would be a great option, too.

He's not a Zombie anymore. He may have one or two fights left, after that he's probably taking the Frankie Edgar path.

You're right that he's on a popularity slump, but with one win (pretty much any win) a lot of his hype will be back. People want to like him.

Well he lost to Ortega which set him back for sure. Beating Ige isn't just going to throw you into title contention. I't doesn't help that all the people he beat since his return are either retired, left the division and are on losing streaks.

I like KZ a lot but he's in kind of a shitty position right now. It really did feel like the UFC was setting him up for a titlefight with a win over Ortega. They even wanted that fight to be the main-event in Korea. Ortega came in and fought a smart fight. He will need to fight someone ranked pretty high or with a big name otherwise he wont get the titleshot. I kinda hope Zabit makes his return soon so that both can fight. Would be the perfect fight for both parties.

I suppose if you hate MMA. It was a masterful performance against an elite fighter.

Well you answered Ts question. Of course it gos barely noticed in the shitshow sherdog is.

It's a hard spot to be in when you so conclusively lose so conclusively to a guy (Ortega) who has lost conclusively to two champions.
