Crazy difference in head strikes landed; 83 to 19 for Sean, how could this be explained?

This is crazy, it's almost like a super pro fought a regional fighter in terms of headstrike/boxing difference.

There are levels to striking in MMA and Sean showed that he is at a much higher level than Izzy offensively & defensively and the numbers proved that

Sean proberly expected Izzy to be at a high level of striking when they fought but it seemed that Sean was at a level that far exceeded Izzy

The weird, Philly shell style Strickland used negated Adesanya's jab and without that to keep his opponent at bay, he faced the problem that many strikers with long arms have faced over the years: if you can't land the jab, the guy with shorter arms has an advantage on the inside.

That big knockdown in the first round seemed to knock the boxing part out of Izzy's kickboxing. Hard to win without it.

Izzy's issue was refusing to move his hands from his waist, so the shell was even more effective than usual. Izzy was hitting glove or whiffing 80% of his strikes. Sean's key was completely nullifying the leg kicks throughout the fight and hitting Izzy with the occasional teep.
Marvelous performance by Strickland, hopefully not his last great one. I was surprised he kept the talking to a minimum till the 5th.

I think this guy explained it well:

Most of Adesanya's opponents respected his counter punching too much. But Strickland walked him down, not giving Adesanya any space to work with. At the same time, Strickland remained cautious in his approach, so that he wouldn't get caught by any of Adesanya's techniques.

Styles makes fights. Who would have thought that UFC's "Best Striker" would be foiled by someone with solid fundamentals and a great defensive game.

Sorry man but there's good technique & there's hope in every style, good technique is a fall back to rely upon regardless of who you fight & style is dependent upon who you are fighting.
Peeps seem to think that Strickland v Adesanya was a style fight when in actual fact it was a technique fight & Adesanya does not have the technique, he'll style you up (if you let him), but he does not break down good technique if you just stick to it.
I'm an amateur fighter who knows nothing but it was pretty obvious to me prior to the fight that Strickland would press forward, walk him down & pressure, take a shot to get a shot for sure so it really comes down to who makes the most of the shot they get & build on that.
Strickland got his shot in the first round & just built from there, Adesanya turned his back & there it is, had to really do something to turn the tide from there & didn't have it.
Not to say he could never do it, just didn't in this fight, because it's mental more than anything, I mean these guys are fucking amazing, they can take & do damage like nothing you've ever seen before, no doubt about it, so don't think I'm dissing Adesanya, he's a great fighter.
But from the moment he didn't do something just turned into the whole fight where he couldn't do anything & tbh, if you thought Strickland was a can/chump/walkover because he's a contender & Adesanya was the champ, then you have never been in a scrap/fight/death contest where the sheer will to live is the only thing that matters, because gaining the initiative is life or death & your skill/past wins mean nothing when the other guy will kill you (sorry for the death talk but my personal experience is of such things) & even though I bet on Tarzan to win (I bet extremely low amounts lol $1 AUD for the win at 5.75 just for a bit of fun, not like I'm some gambling expert) it still comes back to the same thing- Strickland gained the initative & maintained it throughout the fight,
Get on top & stay on top- MMA/boxing/combat sports= fighting with rules, win the iniartive, win the fight
Life= get on top, stay on top, live to fight another day
That's it.... technique wins, because it doesn't matter who you fight, whereas if you need to match up a style in order to win then hey? what happens if the game plan changes or the "fight goes bad" to quote the great Pavel Tsatsouline.... ????

Here we are, Strickland can fight anyone. anytime, anyhow.....
Izzy apparently needs a "matchup" & controlled circumstances to do his thing & that's no thing at all IMO

Pressure and volume, made adesanya be on his backfoot all the time and simply just outboxed him, never let izzy get into his rhythm.

Strickland was faster and beat him to the punch on almost every exchange.

It was looking like izzy was winning that first round and when they traded and sean dropped izzy, izzy was scared the whole fight, probably fought the rest of the fight on “cruise control”.

I felt like Adesayna was missing knees up the middle with a plum clinch. He didn’t do what he needed to do to get Sean’s respect.

Not at all. Styles make fights. Any can beat anybody when you're toward the top of the division.

It isn't about levels lol

Stricklands narrow stance took away Izzys leg kicks, hand fighting took away Izzys jab, constantly stabbing in the stomach with that lead teep kick, combining the lead teep feint with leg kick defense, Izzys go to counter of leaning back and ripping that lead hook was shut down by Sean's inside 1-2.

Styles make fights but sometimes it's just hard to tell how styles will match up till they happen.

and he block/evade 90% of Israel's kicks. But somehow the UFC still counted those blocked kicks as landed strikes
Just in case the fight was closer, so that the fix could be in lol

This.

He fought speed vs speed, just so happens that Sean's straight strikes were faster than previous of Izzy's opponents using hooks and wound up kicks

To best adesanya you have to be first and faster

Those front kicks were fucking up izzys rhythm hard. Every time he got hit with one he had to reset.
