Crawford vs Postal unification in the works - 23 july

Really interesting match but not worth the PPV price in my opinion.

Solid fight.

Both links reference June 23rd and that's what the second article says, although the first one says July 23rd. Anyone know the date for sure?

If they insist on putting Crawford on PPV, this is the only option at 140. It's a really good fight, and the first fight of Crawford's career that he could easily lose if he doesn't bring his best.

Just realized how dead 140 is.

Now that Broner is moving to 147, the only other ones are Provo and Matthysse.

If Crawford beats Postol he should consider a move to 147. He's still a huge 140.

I still won't pay to see this. Postol is a stinker, he really doesn't sweeten the deal.

It's a high level matchup though, for the lineal 140 title. It's pretty significant.

I want this fight to happen.

I'm not paying for just any fight that comes down the pipe anymore. Neither guy has proven enough to me to be worth my money. This is the sort of fight that should be used to build them up as PPV fighters.

Neither guy has any fan base. This is a flop in the making.

Damn good fight imo.

HBO need to load another title fight on the undercard if they expect to see barely significant PPV numbers

Great fight. I'll watch a fuzzy stream on the night and pick up the HD replay on HBO a week later.

I think they're overestimating Bud's drawing power here. If GGG only did 150k I have a hard time seeing Crawford doing much better. Don't get me wrong, it's a good fight, but I think you keep packing the house in Omaha and have him stay on hbo for the time being.

I agree. They can really build him into something people want to watch because he has a great killer instinct and he speaks well but it's too soon for ppv. Being teased as a possible opponent for Pacman's retirement fight doesn't make you a star. Same way all the GGG versus Floyd stuff didn't give GGG big ppv numbers.

Yup, just doesn't make sense to me to put him on ppv yet, I feel like it's still too early. Also he has a really good thing going in Omaha, a lot of great fans out there, even Warren Buffet is showing up and shit, lol. Why put him in LA when he's headlining the ppv? I know Omaha is a smaller city and maybe they want a bigger venue than anything Omaha can offer, but I don't feel like a lot of people in LA would be like "I HAVE to go to this fight." It would be a huge event in his hometown, easy sellout, and that would generate a lot of attention, this would actually be a very good set up for him to get on a ppv. The atmosphere would be nuts.

He could also lose to Postol. Just pointing that out since the discussion has mainly surrounded Crawford being on PPV and his career trajectory. Postol is capable of beating Crawford, it is not an easy fight.

I agree 100% that he is a hometown kind of fighter and they should push that as much as possible. And like Nac said he could lose this fight. It's a great test for him but on paper not a great fight for casual fans. I have a lot of respect for Postol but he is not a fan friendly fighter and the style clash could be really ugly. Put him in with a slugger for his first ppv and give the fans a war. Not a long technician who can pick him off and hold for half the fight.
