News Covington weighs in as the back up fighter for the main event

God imagine crying over a backup fighter.
I get it he hasn’t done anything recent to deserve it, I also understand why it was Colby, he’s an actual reliable WW they can sell. Unlike that unprofessional Khamzat. So just be thankful we had a backup in case of his fell through, AND be glad we didn’t need him anyway since the main is a go!

But seriously, this is some #1 bullsheet. I get that Shavkat just fought and maybe couldn't be cleared to fight so soon (or make weight), but what about Belal?

Caus they know Colby can perform competitively against Usman perhaps. We don't know that about Shakvat

As much as I dislike Colby and used to like Jorge (his fighting style was exciting to watch) I hope that colby gets the lawsuit.

Jorge is a coward and a moron to boot.

I still enjoy his fighting style but don't care for anything else. He does need to be in matches with "certain" types. Grapplers will just take him down and shut him out.

Things would seem to point to that.

Looks like Colby wasn't an idiot after all. Gets to sit out and recover, all the while extorting some money out of Masvidal and twisting the UFC's arm (potentially using the criminal charges against Masvidal as leverage) for a title shot without having to fight new contenders.

Lol Colby has never had to twist the UFC’s arm for anything.

He’ll always be valued for obvious reasons.
 
Cutting seems really bad for your health and an absolute nightmare to go through. The odds of Colby fighting is so slim. Why would he make a cut if he’s not getting compensated?

To an extent, yes. But he was already given two title shots. Not many fighters get three title shots in a row without having to fight at least one new contender. That would put him in some very rare company. I don't think Colby has that kind of pull.
 
How does this whole back-up fighter thing even work? Whos to say that Usman or Leon would want to fight him on an one-day notice?

Did the main event guys agree to fighting whoever as a last-minute replacement?
