When Colby wins it still delays the ineveitable of him fighting for the belt. It’s a lose-lose. Usmans only chance is a fluke KO which is very unlikely considering he has one KO in 7 ufc fights and Colby has never been KOed. However, when Colby dominates Usman it does absolutely nothing for him. He’s not gonna get a title shot for beating #9 who’s best win is a LnP UD over a top 50 fighter Emil meek.

Colby doesn’t owe #9 a fight. Maia gave Colby an opportunity because he was coming off a title loss. So why would #3 Colby on a 5 fight streak fight #9 who has zero notable wins?

Basically people want this fight because it just delays the inevitable of Colby fighting for the belt. They know if he fights RDA or Wonderboy there’s way Dana could deny him a shot at gold. Usman needs to fight either Ponzi, Till, Magny, Lawler, Masvidal or Maia. The top 3 is off limits for him.

Frankly any top 10 matchup with another top 10 is good enough for me to tune in. All those guys at WW are capable of winning the belt, there is no giant skill gap between the top 2/3 and the rest of the division, unlike LHW or 125.

Smart matchmaking needs to happen with the 11+ ranked crowd, a few breakouts are possible, but it's much less clear (or they are obviously out of their depth against top 10, a la aluminum perry)

Colby is hiding from Usman by using the rankings as an excuse, and you know that damn well, which is why you felt the need to make a thread to justify the ducking.

The most telling piece of evidence is that Colby, a guy who has verbal diarrhea on social media, hasn't mentioned ONE WORD to Usman, even though he's been called out for months. "Maybe if I don't respond, he'll stop exposing me and just go away....."

Gotcha, so you meant to say he lost one round to another grappler ( Cody is a grappler himself, not some elite boxer ).

In that case I agree with you, round one was close and Colby landed a lot of nice leg kicks, but yes Maia took that round pretty clearly.
