The only thing certain in MMA is that NOTHING is certain. Of course Conor should not be completely dismissed. But outside of a flash KO, I just don't think that he has the tools in his shed to defeat Nate. Especially in a 5 round fight.
And I really don't like his chances for a flash KO either.
Exactly.
I listened to this "analysis" and thought that it was so fucking dumb
How the fuck is Conor going to add leg kicks as a significant part of his arsenal in the short amount of time he has to prepare for his rematch against Nate?
The "analyst" might as well advise him to learn how to grapple at a black belt level and beat Nate on the ground.
Conor doesn't even do Muay Thai sparring.
His dumb can-camp thinks that Muay Thai is outdated and that the future of MMA striking is all about karate-boxing movement (dummies).
You can hear his thoughts on Muay Thai here-
Conor won't be able to do to Nate what RDA did to him.
I'm not saying that Conor isn't as good as RDA or that he doesn't have a good chance to beat Nate (I believe that he does), I'm just baffled by the dweebs that think Conor should learn elite Muay Thai overnight and beat Nate by chopping him down with leg kicks.
Yes Nate has problems checking leg kicks.
No Conor doesn't have the specific skills to replicate RDA's gameplan against him (strong leg kicks, specific combinations/tempo to set up the leg kicks, power-wrestling, black belt BJJ).
The most Conor would be able to do with that kind of strategy is to pull a Condit against Nate, and everything we've seen so far suggests that he doesn't have the cardio to do that.
Conor only throws Capoiera/Tae Kwon Do/Karate kicks.
Body kicks, spinning kicks, head kicks. Never with the Muay Thai twerk.
For the noobs:
^Yes, of course, Conor knows how to kick like that. But he doesn't- because he doesn't incorporate Muay Thai into his sparring.
It takes years to develop the rhythm, power, timing, combinations, and experience to actually throw effective leg kicks in a live fight.
This is what happens when you think you can throw good leg kicks and actually try to do it in a live fight but aren't at that level yet-
Rampage has only incorporated them recently into his arsenal even though he's been practicing them for a decade- and he finds opportunities to connect with them very rarely.
I don't know what Conor's path to beating Nate is.
He def. has a large toolbox to work with.
It goes without saying that he's much more versatile in the stand-up than Nate Diaz.
But Nate's hard as fuck to put out and Conor doesn't have the stamina advantage that a smaller guy should always have over the larger opponent.
I think he has about a 10% chance to pull a Thomson against Nate with all the hail-merry spinning kicks he throws.
Other than that he only has a good chance of beating Nate if his stamina improves ten-folds.
The only guy that should gas out at the lower weight-class is fat BJ Penn.
