Could Yellowstone Park Volcano Go Sooner Then Anyone Planned?

People are just egocentric enough to believe that they are living in the endtimes. Has always been true for every generation. Either that or the world will blow in "70 years".

If you told people in 1000 years that the world would end, most people wouldn't give a shit. You have to say it's going to happen in a few years so it grabs everyone's attention.

ever heard of a guy called Nostradamus?

More people covering it the government going to have to respond I would imagine if anything to quite fears.

Good lord, look at the size of the caldera!

The magma is like a huge bubble of molten rock. When you boil water, it bubbles because it is turning to steam at the bottom of the pan and that steam rises to the surface because it is less dense than the water it is in. When it starts to boil, you can see bubbles form and start toward the surface but they disapate before they reach the surface because the water cools the steam. When all the water is near boiling temperature, it can't cool the steam bubbles so they start making it to the surface. If you put something in the water, like a wooden spoon, it will provide a path to the surface that doesn't allow full contact with the water so the bubbles make it to the surface easier around the spoon.

Making any kind of contact with the magma, whether drilling or a bomb, would provide the path to the surface. Once the magma starts to flow, the pressure will force more magma to flow and the weight of the crust on top of the magma will act like fingers popping a pimple sending magma high into the sky. Any hole would be like a hole in a dike that quickly gets larger. About like popping a ballon.

I understand that. The main concern is the quantity of material put into the air. we're talking about thousands of cubic kilometers of ash thousands of feet in the air.

While a massive magma jet blowing out the side might seem like a bad idea, it might reduce the severity of a truly catastrophic blowout.

Maybe you end up wiping out half of Wyoming but save civilization.

When the Earth has had enough of man, she'll flick us away like a cigarette butt.

The other part of the equation is that Yellowstone is not the only super-volcano, the world has about a dozen of them. When one of them pops, and it will, chaos will ensue. I'm not even sure if some people in this thread know the difference between a regular volcano like Mt. Saint Helens and a super-volcano like Yellowstone.

Yellowstone = Mt. St. Helens X1000's. Its a possible extinction event if the entire 34X54 mile caldera unzips.

So what you're saying is, Florida will be ok?

Yes!

waiting for an asteroid to hit Yellowstone and give us double Armageddon.

New movie title Scifi get to work on it!

All joking aside if this thing where to live up to expectations living in Florida likely not going to mean much. Heck its likely not going to mean much for a good size portion of the earth apparently?

Just in case we'll invade and colonize Canada.

Apparently no. All the information I have seen says the first thing to happen is the United States is over. Beyond that, our mid-west "bread basket" states that grow all the food for half the world will be destroyed. Beyond that, the earth will be shrouded in darkness, even if you are in Japan or Australia, there is no escaping its reach if its a full eruption.

The really scary part is that Yellowstone is not the only super-volcano. There are 7 or 8 super volcanoes in the world also known as megacaldera. If any of the 7 blow, and one will, we are looking at starvation, chaos, zombie apocalypse type shit. I'm not saying humans will necessarily go extinct but it could result in billions dead over a 20 or 30 year period. Alot of people in the U.S. will die rather quickly while the rest of the world begins to starve because all the crops are dead.

I'm not saying this as a conspiracy or anything, but rather, just as a fact. It is well known that the U.S. government has been building underground bunkers, huge ones, all over the U.S. for at least the last 20-30 years. I have no idea what they are thinking, are they afraid of Yellowstone? Nuclear fallout? civil unrest? I have no idea and don't pretend to know but I do know they have built alot of them around the country.
