could top boxers compete in MMA with minimal training?

Depends on your definition of "minimal" but no they would get taken down and submitted

I think it would be easier to teach a boxer how to competently stop takedowns and teach them BJJ than it is to teach it the other way around. Being a top boxer requires much more athletic ability than the other bases for MMA.

That's not saying a boxer can come into MMA and learn the other disciplines quickly, so don't get it confused.

No. They need at least a few years of training to be able to stuff takedowns, defend against BJJ, and to deal with Kicks, elbow, and knees. All this stuff takes time to learn......

About as well as a top kickboxer with minimal training... so it depends on the individual I guess.

Think Tyson would do way better than Mayweather for example. Boxing 'point fighting' wouldn't work well, being a heavy hitter in the bigger divisions could. You could use Holly Holm as an argument against the first part but Holm has years of cross training instead of 'minimal', without lots of cross training you would want to get the opponent out of there ASAP before you can screw up.

Top boxers could easily destroy mma fighters with little or no experience.

Any top level college wrestler could wreck a Pro boxer in a MMA without any training.

I agree about Tyson vs Mayweathers style in MMA, but I actually think a kickboxer has a slight advantage transitioning over compared to a boxer because they have a more dynamic range of strikes, which helps, and are able to fight at a greater distance which is advantageous against grapplers trying to take you down or get you against the cage.

one year of training pure grappling would make them pretty decent

they wouldn't need to spend any time training striking because they'll already be better than anybody in MMA

No. Just like a top MMA guy wouldn't dominate boxing.

Stupid question

Yeah, until they face a guy with strong leg kicks.

I agree, I just meant that in general some boxers could do well and not others like with kickboxers eg. Crocop vs Badr Hari.

Also depends on your definition of "successful". GGG or Floyd could easily destroy Conor with minimal training. Not so much against well-rounded fighters.

no way. they would need many years of grappling training

if they had an aptitude for grappling sure.

Yea it would be hard to imagine Conor winning against boxers. Actually given Conor's success, I am more optimistic about boxers with KO power's ability to make that transition.

So they would easily destroy a BJJ brown belt with minimal training? Please do elaborate, bungler.
