Why not? Problem is he might have gotten taken down in the process. Who knows...Johny had some success against GSP with it (and Travis Browne, obviously).

I don't know, wasn't sure if you need both hands to fight a take down at all costs or if you can fight off khabib using the fence and reign down some offence.

Not likely without getting taken down.
Khabib has the underhook on his left side, Iaquinta is better off controlling the other hand so he doesnt level change

Not only would it have got him taken down sooner (immediately) but he wouldn't have been able to do the hammerfist with any force/effect in that position
