Whitaker at WW was just an average prospect, but nobody really expected to do anything, especially moving up to a higher weight class

Same with Smith at MW

Whitaker moves up to MW and goes on a surprising run, beating some older fighters

Same with Smith...SO FAR

Whitaker gets a big change against Jacare who was 1 fight away from the title

Same with Smith if he actually gets Gus

MW before Whitaker was dominated by a GOAT (Anderson), then a GOATs replacement (MY BOY)

Same with LHW GOAT (Jones), GOATs replacement (DC)

There are some similarities but Smith simply has too many losses

There are some similarities but Smith simply has too many losses

But those were in the past, and outside of the UFC

He was probably at a bad camp or had poor coaching at the time, or coudlnt afford to train full time on the regional circuit with low payouts

Those older fighters that whittaker beat are still whipping the younger ones

He has beaten 3 straight ghosts. He's fringe top 10 material to say he deserves a title shot for beating the empty shell of Shogun and Rashad is showing two old shot fighters way too much respect. He's an average fighter but his confidence now must be through the roof. He will lose his next fight. He likes to bang like Whittaker but Rob is a special breed of champion. Smith is a special breed of gatekeeper.

Anyone that watched Whittaker always knew he had the potential.

Cutting to ww wasnt the right option for him.

Smith is older than Whitaker and already twice as many fights (and way more losses) than him.

I think we need to take it easy with Smith, two wins over Shogun and Rashad in 2018 are all but a good test of where he is at. I hope he fights someone like Latifi or even someone like Rockhold or Romero next.

Yea if Whittaker fought Rich Franklin and Evan Tanner his 1st 2 fights at MW

UFC LHW and HW divisions are so devoid of talent I prefer watching the smaller guys...

when they actually make it to fight night.

WME 101 on how to ruin a successful fight promotion into the ground... ignore the biggs and prioritize filling your roster and cards with less skilled women.

Give smith manuwa or OSP, them we will see if he’s a top 10 LHW

Whittaker is only 27 right now on his historic win streak.

He was green and in his early 20's when he lost a handful of fights.

Anthony Smith is a solid journeyman who just beat two guys that should have retired years ago. Considering how paper thin the 205lbs division is, no doubt he can do well in the current landscape. Rumble retired, Jones is suspended, DC left the division.

There are on paper similarities but they are very different fighters. What makes Whittaker a top guy is his extremely underrated/bafflingly good takedown defense which unfortunately, Smith doesn't have. That being said, LHW is extremely shallow compared to MW so never say never

Smith is good but people are still riding way too high on him after beating names and not contenders. He still has a big hole in his game, which is submission defense. Certainly he's better than he used to be at avoiding it... but he has trouble with quality wrestlers with submission games.

I still love watching him fight though, even if he did break my heart last weekend. Luckily I had already resigned to the fact he would.... so it only hurt "the most" and not "beyond the most".

Yea if Whittaker fought Rich Franklin and Evan Tanner his 1st 2 fights at MW

Rich was a stud even at the end of his career, and Tanner died

I see what you were trying to say with that comparision, but maybe use Nate Marquart Yushin Okami or Mark Munoz
