Could Amanda Ribas Challenge Valentina Shevchenko?

Dern is very physically strong and should be fighting at 125 or even 135; she wasn't able to use her strength against Ribas and Ribas looked big in that fight, too.

Dern isn't even a big Strawweight, she's in the right division too ..... her weight problems were the result of excess food and beaches

Fair enough. I feel that Dern is very athletic, and obviously has excellent jiu jitsu, but I question her physical strength. I know judging by appearances is a fool's errand, but Dern carries more fat than almost any else in the division, thus her lean body weight is likely lower than average for a strawweight. The only reason for her to fight above 115 is because she's been undisciplined in her diet (though she seems to have made progress in that regard of late).
On the other hand, I believe most opponents underestimate Jedrzejczyk's strength as well, so it's possible that Ribas is a powerhouse.

That's a good point and I definitely agree about Joanna. People think she's physically weak, but she's one of the strongest in the division IMO.

Joanna is a highly disciplined 5'7" Dern is or at least was an undisciplined 5'4", that's the only reason she ever had problems making weight.

Personally I'd favor Ribas to beat all of them. Haven't the rankings caught up with the fact that Grasso and Calvillo have moved up to 125 btw.

I have a little bit of a hard time gauging Ribas at this point. She looks to have tons of potential, but the fighters she’s faced in the UFC are either deeply flawed, or just not very good. I’d like to see her fight someone in the 10-15 range for her next step so we can get a better idea of where she stands.

How about she gets ranked in the top 15 of her own division before we start talking about challenging the dominant champion in the next division up who many consider to be the best or second best WMMA fighter in the world.

She's too small to challenge her in a fight. 115er vs 125/135 tweener (who also happens to be the best womyn fighter in the world)

As far as appeal, ribas is a certified cutie unlike schevchenko red army comrad looking ass.

Hard to see winning. Not because she doesn't have the "skills" or "tech" she do more or less, have it yet to be seeing.

I find it rich; for anyone who say's Amanda Ribas, A (rank #15 3-1 record) Will be running through (#6 #9 #11 #14 etc) and finish them all 1 by 1 in "dominate fashion" is a little Fan-boyish..

Ribas is in the strawweight division. So why talk about Valentina, who is in the division above? It makes more sense to talk about Ribas vs Weili Zhang, or Rose Namajunas, or Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Probably because there's no one to really talk about in the 125 division. There are definitely some good matchups for Ribas at 115.

Her struggles are because of lack motivation and dedication to the sport. She had no problems her last weight cut and she great looked physically at the weigh ins. It's just a matter of if she's taking her weight cuts serious. Even now she doesn't walk around as heavy as she did in the past out of camp.
