Could a prime Weidman have beaten Izzy?

Prime Weidman was (T)KOed like 5x

Prime Weidman claim to fame was beating a 38 year old Silva,a 36-37 year old Machida(who was considered past his best after being strangled by Jon Jones) and a deflated 40 year old TRTless Belfort, who hadnt fought in over a year

Stylebender by KO

He was also 10 years younger when he first beat a 38 years old Silva.

6 years younger when he beat a 36 years old Machida.

8 years younger when he beat a 38 years old Belfort.

Ironically, he lost against a 39 years old Romero while being 7 years younger.

Yes, Weidman at his peak would've mauled Adesanya. Before his chin cracked, he was looking pretty special and he could absolutely do everything Jan did to Izzy.

Prime Weidman murks Izzy. Huge frame, fantastic grappler, competent striker, pace and cardio to give anyone trouble. Izzy had been pretty lucky in terms of style matchups. MW doesn't really have an elite grappler right now, but Jan showed what a pretty good grappler can do to him. Don't gimme that Romero argument either - he might have been a wrestler once upon a time but he's been throwing nothing but wild haymakers for over a decade. Anderson was a much better version of Izzy imo. Better striking and MUCH better grappling. What he did to Lutter, Sonnen, and Henderson on the ground just shows how elite his ground game was. I honestly think the version of Sonnen who almost beat Anderson would destroy Izzy just based on being a horrible matchup for him.

The real question is, would Moose have won the strap if he stayed? He left on a 5 fight win streak with Bisping as the incumbent champion. Would he have beaten Bisping, Whittaker, and/or Izzy? I'm going to go with yes, yes, maybe.

I'd take prime Weidman if Izzy couldn't even deal with the worst LHW champion maybe in UFC history. Him or Griffin.

A prim Weidman and Rockhold will give Adesanya some problems, especially on the ground.

It would depend on Weidman's gas tank really... I think he would be in trouble later in the fight as he usually had trouble with his cardio.

If he could keep the fight as his pace, id take prime Weidman.

This. Moose not getting a TS while in the UFC was a massive injustice. The UFC's MW division a few years ago was phenomenal, and the match-makers just s*** all over it.

People forget how good Prime Weidman was. The dude had like 20 surgeries and got his chin cracked. Of course he’ll never be the same but his run at MW was pretty epic.

Recency bias will get a lot of detractors but prime Weidman absolutely dominates Adesanya.
