Costa is gonna be a hard task for khamzat

This is going to be a very good fight.

Those who are discrediting Khamzat for having trouble finishing Burns will be in for a surprise. Costa may be bigger but he is not as explosive as Burns. If he can't pressure Khamzat and force a fight in the pocket, he is opening himself up to getting knocked out because Khamzat has knockout power and his shots are unpredictable. This doesn't mean Costa is a bad striker. His technique is elite and if he gets Khamzat's back against the fence, the fight is over because Costa will go nuts.

On to grappling, I don't think Khamzat will have an easy time keeping Costa down. This isn't necessarily because Costa has good grappling but rather because his core strength is almost second to none in the division. Problem is Costa doesn't have a good gas tank so I don't know how his defence will stand in the later rounds.

Costa isn't a walk in the park for anyone unless it's Izzy. He's strong AF and was able to match Yoel in physicality when they fought. If he's able to match Yoel in terms of brute strength and also avoid getting controlled by Rockhold (another strong MW) he's going to make it extremely difficult for Khamzat.

Costa hasn't finished anyone since Uriah Hall 4-5 years ago, and has no wins over anyone still in the UFC - as a matter of fact, Yoel is the only fighter who is still active in MMA and not retired. He is going to lose to Khamzat, no matter how much UFC pays him, abd it's not because Khamzat is some amazing superstar - it's because Costa at this point is not a very good fighter.
And who has khamzat beat at mw that is relevant?

costa was just fighting low cus he wasn't getting paid lolll i don't think he was putting effort in his training camps and fights now that he is allegedly getting over a "mil" per fight i think we will see a more motivated costa.

what you guys think?

Khamzat only has a chance in the first round. He may surprise the Costa early.

If he doesn't, he's going to fade and get obliterated.

Khamzat exposes the grappling not only of Costa, but by extension, exposes all of the MW division where Costa's grappling has never been in question.

Izzy has a spontaneous heart attack as a result / Alex instantly declares he will retire at LHW. Half the ranked kickboxers at MW retire from MMA to declare they are all now pursing boxing matches with Jake Paul.
Ummmm all you clowns were saying rockhold owns the ground in mma. Yet when they fought, costa outgrappled luke.

also, everyone was saying costa is gonna destroy luke because luke is chinny and costa hits hard. They both have a war, and now suddenly costa has no grappling.

i like costa but this is true

It is not Paulo’s fault if people choose to retire after fighting him?
I think the Rockhold fight was more like taking it safe and winning on points for Costa. Luke said that in an interview that it was annoying, that Costa was just point fighting. The reality is that Luke got dominated for 3 rounds and had the opportunity to retire honourably (not TKOd) after that fight. Similar like what Burns did to Masvidal.

imo Costa would beat the shit out of Khamzat , but I had the same idea about Costa that he would rape Adesanya and this happened

I want him to be. But go and look at his last 4 fights. He's not

Costa isn't getting ran through. His grappling is good enough to hold his own and his chin is fine. He took hard shots from Yoel. Khamzat's stand up in the pocket is pretty bad, I'd be very surprised if he looks better than Costa on the feet.

You must have missed my premonition thread

But if Khamzat comes in shape, focus, and confident then it should definitely be a tough outing for Khamzat. Costa will be the biggest opponents for him, one of the better strikers, and Khamzat specialized off beating smaller wrestlers.

It's just that last fight against Luke doesnt give much promise. I know it was in altitude but still. Otherwise Costa had had a decent performance at 185 since Romero in 2019.

Not to mention he is highly inactive with all the pay dispute stuff.

Fair point - Khamzat is a promising fighter but still largely untested against top competition; Costa is tested against the top competition and has shown himself in the last few years to be less than spectacular. Perhaps Costa doesn't need to be spectacular to beat Khamzat, but I don't know that he has it in him to beat Khamzat at all.

Im interested to see if Khamzat can take him down and keep him down.
