Costa on paper is a good opponent, but if you look at his fights in the past 3 years he has not looked good at all. He will be easily beaten by Khamzat who, as much as I don't care for him.. is legitimately an excellent talent. The rare kind of talent that doesn't come around often.

Just look at Kevin Holland, he was a more legit top 10 MW than Costa is at this point and he didn't even land a punch or do anything. Khamzat is going to wreck Costa. Will take him down and beat him up in the first round if I had to bet.

When this was first announced I was in denial but the more I thought about it the more I also came to this conclusion.

It's clear they learned how to fight SMART based on the approach they took in the Holland fight, and while Costa obviously has superior takedown defense compared to Holland, Chimaev is more game in that regard than his previous opponents. Outside of Chimaev being an idiot and trying to stand and bang the whole fight, I don't see a clear path to victory for Costa. He hasn't looked particularly special since his fight with Romero 4 years ago.

But who the fuck knows, maybe the wino can pull off an upset. It'd be karma for Chimaev's egregious weight transgression.

I don't know how much bigger Costa will be than Chimaev at MW. He'll be bigger from a body builder perspective for sure, but I don't know that the strength difference will be as lopsided.

The skillset in wrestling sure but khamza is a massive WW. Tiny MW. BIGGEST fight was Burns who planked him and had him on skates. Saved by corruption judges.

If it goes to a decision, it's a wrap. Classic ufc judges. If a lw can plank Khamza, MW is going to be a epic shoop.

Costa by stoppage or highway robbery in coming. Costa isn't a huge 1 punch striker. Still, if a lw can ice him, mw is going to be fun.

I wouldn't give huge credit to the "matchmaking." This fight has been talked about for a long time; the fighters themselves, along with the fans, essentially did the matchmaking on this one. The UFC just scrapped their original terrible matchmaking and made this obvious fight instead. Not exactly rocket science.

Holland was scared of him that's why he tried to touch gloves 3 times and got caught with takedown immediately. GM3 was scared of him too, backed up as soon as the fight started.
Khamzats biggest weapon is fear and when someone doesn't scared of him like Burns, he struggles. Costa might win or lose but it will not be a domination if he loses.
