Is it just me or the bigger the gym is (in population), the stupider the people there are?

Comparing my 24/7 gym that is noticeably more expensive than my previous gym where I worked at, there are a lot less people bugging the employees for pointless shit, a lot less fights happening in the bathrooms, and more people who actually train instead of talking about random shit.

What's been your experience?

The bigger it is, the cheaper, the more it appeals to the lowest common denominator, the lower the commitment from people going, higher degree of ghettoness, etc. I think there’s some straight up homeless people that pay $10/month to shower at Planet Fitness. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But you are unlikely to see broccoli hair high school dudes screaming with their shirts off and doing tik toks in a slightly more expensive, or smaller, or more niche gym.

My gym is a big chain type. It’s a mixed bag at $50/month. Equipment is decent though. Plenty of racks, good barbells, gymnastics rings, GHD, and they even have a belt squat. They don’t bother your for using chalk either. Still some dumb shit going on, but no fighting or anything that extreme. Also, there’s lots of hot girls there on the regular. Sometimes I pay a day pass at another chain that is like $25 a month, and it is noticeably more ghetto, the equipment is way shittier, and I’ve noticed there’s nearly zero women there every time. May be a coincidence. I bet there’s plenty of Karens doing bullshit exercises in Equinox paying $200 a month, but they’re probably less annoying than other types.

Some of the people in the large scale doing their own version of fitness is worth the visit that day. The creativity of goofy has no limits. When the house flooded and had to go to PF for a year, there was a " young aspiring rap artist" who was using the gym crowd as his own. Not working out, but putting on full concert up front facing everyone . He danced so maybe it was cardio day.

I can't tell if that's cringe or epic.

In Germany it´s expensive gym = classy well behaved people
The cheaper the gym is the more ghetto behaviour you have.

I used to go a to a realy cheap gym and switched to the most expensive one. Difference is exactly that.

Cheap gym the employees don´t care or look out for the customers. If someone is acting up it can go unnoticed.

Expensive gym everyone got jobs and education and employees wouldn´t even have to do anything but make sure everyone has everything and feels fine. Everyone is poliet and behaving decent. It´s not dirty or chaotic. Things aren´t broken. The equipement is better. The gyms concept is nice. It has a pool and sauna. Everything is better. Locker room is big. Shower isn´t tiny. It has shampoo, towels and is clean. Free flavored water. Cofee tastes good. And just the people not being shady or sleezy. Noone is agressive. Well behaved. Some young idiots aren´t staring you down. People aren´t talking dissrespectful and loud and play fighting each other. Noone looks like they took some drug. Noone is sparring. Even though I used to spar at the gym too. I also did like the cheap gym and still might go if a friend takes me on the weekend as that is a option for long term members. Overal it´s way to boring compared to the nice gym. And the crowd can sort of make you depressed seeing them daily. You get what you pay for. I mean the big cheap gym chain you actually imo get double what you pay for, it has a lot of equipement for that price. I still like staying at the better one to make me go more often. It´s also not that expensive. You can save money on something else. Your call what matters to you.

But cheap Gyms in Germany also have a lot of equipement it´s just they are boring to go to all the time. Rather spend more money and be excited to go for a workout. Which is the goal, do more workouts. If it´s boring there I will do less. If it´s a very fun place I will go whenever I am recovered enough to go. So it´s literaly paying to be in better shape.

I mean the cheapest gym will have people who don´t work, don´t work well, don´t got a lot of skills, didn´t take care of their life, so their money is low and they will go to the cheapest place. It will reflect exactly on the atmoshpere there.

wow do you got no gym rules over there

Planet Fitness. Only rules are don't lift anything heavy and make sure you put pizza grease on the benches
I saw those videos where they go crazy over someone deadlifting heavy. Borderline starting a fight. They are jelous. Jelous bitches. Cause you work hard and they don't lift that heavy.

Just out of curiosity what's the difference in monthly costs?

I still got my 24 hr fitness 49$/year membership although I mostly train at work gyms.

Cheap one 25 $
Expensive one 80$ + 20$ for free towels + 40$ 3 yearly for a bit personal coaching on training or nutrition which I only used once but it´s part of the fees. I just don´t feel like getting coached by the staff. They also like if you don´t make them work more. So it´s 110$ if you count the average.
Other cheap ones are sometimes 40$ but the 25$ is imo better. The 25$ is very decent, cause the equipement, it´s huge and got a functional area and a small room with a heavybag. And it´s got multiple gyms all over town and the country, cause it´s the biggest chain.
The expensive one got a swimming pool, sauna and class room with multiple classes daily. It got more expensive equipement. Lockers are a ton better and nice. It is spread out into different areas which look and feel different, some got like roof terrace depending on locations, it overal feels like a nice hotel. In one area you work and the walls are glass so people on the street walk by while you train, which is a nice hint. The m usic is also different in the areas. The cheap gym sometimes go the same sountrack for 5 years in a row. I also go to the class room a lot when it´s empty and conect my phone to the speakers, and jus have the room with my own music. It got flavored water, good coffee and a entrance lounge. It´s just overal better, nicer. You can train perfectly fine in both of the gyms. Just one feels better.
Contracts in Germany are 2 years, if you want em shorter the fees go up. However recently law is after 2 years the contract can´t prolongue on itself and you can cancel each month.
Theres multiple expensive gyms and some cost about the same but don´t got a swimming pool. They all got saunas. But I like this one for the pool, even though I rarely ever get in, just seeing water makes me feel something.
People are really clean and normal. No agressive vibes.
Opening hours the 25$ gym wins hands down cause it is open night and day every day yearly I think even on Christmas 24/7. Not sure about New Years Eve. However I actually don´t wanna train into the night anymore.
My gym is open 6 am to 11 pm. On the weekend 9 am to 9 pm. There´s also about 5 in the area if I wanted to switch it up but I go 97% to the same spot. I change it up if I need a hour extra as the central one is open a hour earlier and closes a hour later. Or for fun if I wanted a change. Coffee is not free, but it´s good quality coffee, good to have sometimes when you want one before. The protein shakes are in the machines, expensive, just like all pre packaged protein shakes are, and don´t taste good. The protein bars taste decent considering they are protein bars and those things don´t taste fresh. I rarely get any of it just if I need calories dduring a workout, I do get the coffee when I need it. In the MMA gym the protein shakes are fresh and taste apsolutely great, I get them almost everytime. They got some mashine to swirl it and make it feel and taste like a cloud.

It's similar here.

You have some cheaper barebones chains offering super cheap rates and then you have very upscale ones that cost 100-200/month. I signed up for a chain one that used to be about middle of the pack for 3 years about twenty years ago for 600 and 49 renewal every year. Even when I stopped going for many years I still paid it. I like it for access to do freeeeights, leg press, Smith Machine, some machines etc. Bathrooms are nasty. Many machines are broken and old. Cramped basketball halfcourt has been broken for a year or more now. But oh well.

Also at least some locations used to be 24-7 except maybe some big holidays but now quite a few closed down and the others close 9-11pm. The one I go to started staying open 24 hours Tue through Thu but who goes on those days? Sometimes I force myself to go on Thursday after work. Thankfully I have access to multiple gyms so depending where I am working and how long I want to drive I have quite a few options.

Good one. Not the exact location I frequent. This one is central and a bit crowded streetish. But you get the view.

Fitness First Frankfurt - Myzeil https://share.google/IPvYjN3ZlikD0yCHj

Cheap one. Looks very good too. I also didn't go to this location frequently. But this one I remember being the cleanest with the nicest people.

McFit gym Offenbach https://share.google/iKGln2Rrywhg4XjJf

Both look good it's Germany. However cheap gyms in many locations will be sort of ghetto to say. Just the crowd. Regardless of being well equiped and spacious.

Home in Herzegovina our gyms are tiny im comparison. Pretty clean and well equiped with a good atmosohere. But very small compared to Germany.

This is one of the gyms back home in Ljubuški

btw that´s super creepy that you can zoom into into the whole city and everyones houses. Super creepy. Can we do this globaly ?

I'd call both of these good. The second one is close to the one I go to when it was actually well maintained.

The one I go to also has different levels. There are some in other cities about an hour away that are almost like country clubs but I'd have to pay like 20$ per day more. They have full basketball courts, towel service, masseuses, etc but probably still not as nice as some of the ones you have.

I only saw one vibration machine in area for our athletes in a larger facility. You have a whole bunch of them in the cheaper gym.

At the end of the day it's more about the effort you put in than the gym. As long as it has the basics the rest is just noise.

I tried and I can zoom into my adress on google. Asked goolge and it says it´s legal cause they local laws allow for public view pictures. Basically every corner of the world will be digitaly aviable. I don´t care either way it´s fine. I trust google. Someones gotta be up top anyways. So it be. Google is fine.

Well this is the best McFit in the area. They are built the same all of them. But there´s 2 location which are overfilled and the customers you know, they acting chaotic. It´s not "that" bad but you feel the difference compared to the expensiver gyms. I mean if it was the same nobody would care to pay more. Low prices attract customers with low bugets. I mean depends, some people generally like the cheaper gyms, and people who pay for the better gyms aren´t necessary wealthier, exmpl me, they just care to have that training standard. It´s an investment so to say. Gonna spend it on this or that. A vacation or a year of training.

The equipement is no problem. It just gets a bit boring in the cheaper gym and a few spots the people can be really annoying at times. It is a huge gym, it´s also the the number 1 gym chain.
At the end of the day it's more about the effort you put in than the gym.
Always. I just go to the better one for fun.

Yep. You don´t need much of anything if you are dedicated to train.
