I read somewhere that Wuhan had approximately 9,000 hospital beds before the outbreak. It was already filling to capacity when the city went into lockdown. This virus will hammer down any medical system regardless of how robust that system is.

Italy and South Korea are both reporting that they are running out of beds. With this outbreak, we need to act fast to impose travel restrictions and limiting gatherings/movements. The virus doesn't care about politics or stock market. Its sole purpose is to infect and spread to new hosts.

We will know the truth of it's properties and spread within the coming weeks. We know China is hiding something as far as how deadly this virus truly is, but we aren't going to get it form them, their need to save face beyond anything else is too strong of an instinct in their culture.

Maybe people are doing it because that's what people do when hurricanes, earthquakes , flooding ravages an area. So they are doing the same thing here without thinking if it is necessary??

I was reading some people saying water is essential obviously in a bug out kit situation and with this I don’t see a reason to flee. And even if water was an issue a few bottles is really not going to amount to much and a total breakdown of society would be very soon after that. What would be much more useful in that situation would be water collectors and a filter to make it drinkable. But now we are talking full out prepping doomsday stuff.

CCP's knee jerk reaction to everything is to squash free dissemination of information . They don't know anything other than censorship and strict control of society. They will lie and cover this up as best they can, because they don't want the world to get mad at the Chinese government and culture for creating this mess.

I don't understand why people are treating this like a doomsday scenario. Do people REALLY think that THEY are going to get Corona Virus? The odds are astronomical and even more astronomical that it would kill them. I guess it shows how easily people can be manipulated by the media...

Someone please explain this to me. Legitimate question. If this is just the flu with possibly a slightly higher mortality rate, when was the last time entire cities were shut and locked down because it's flu season? Nothing ever happens when people get the flu and 60,000 a year die from it so why are cities locking down if "80% will only get mild symptoms?"

Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, Office Depot... There's some still out there somewhere. You may have to pay more than at Costco, but...

Because it is new. We are not used to it. And social media and cable news are fueling that fire

I don't think I'll get it. But I live In a neighborhood people travel from all around the world to visit and work in the tourism industry. We just had 1.5 million tourists in the city last month, so it's been on the back of my mind lol.

Let’s be honest, once this is all over the Chinese government needs to be held responsible for what they unleashed here.
 
Potatoes apparently can last up to three months if stored in a cool place. And bags of rice will go a long way to help stretching out your cans of meat and fish. But it's true that buying anything more than a few cases of bottled water will do nothing but take up space in your house. Electricity and tap water will remain unscathed.
