As someone who works as a mechanic, there is basically nothing you can do to enrage the bosses faster than showing up to work sick.

There’s a level of stupid where someone just goes in to work and toughs it out, and there’s a level of importance where you go in sick because the entire society depends on you.

Almost no one is part of the second category, though a lot of people who are in the first think that they are.

Who knows? I'm not one of them.

This year it was the first time in 4 years I called in sick. I was ok to work but I didn't wanted to get my coworkers sick. I isolated in my apartment, called off all social activities (including teh sex) and ride it off.
Day 2 I called a doctor. The fever was already gone.

I can't imagine being the guy who goes to work all sick and gets everybody else sick. We have one of those in every office tho.

Until I got plenty of sick time I was in the "tough it out" category. Now that I get two weeks of sick leave a year, I will stay home if I have a cough or runny nose or congestion. Why not? It could be something worse or it may just be a regular cold. Either way, I don't want to expose anyone to that shit. Someone across the hall from me just got done with a ten-minute stretch of coughing but she is one of those people that thinks the world will stop rotating if they miss a couple days straight.
