As someone who works as a mechanic, there is basically nothing you can do to enrage the bosses faster than showing up to work sick.

There’s a level of stupid where someone just goes in to work and toughs it out, and there’s a level of importance where you go in sick because the entire society depends on you.

Almost no one is part of the second category, though a lot of people who are in the first think that they are.



It is crazy that there’s always at least one person who is always proud of being the one who comes in while sick.

As someone who's in the blue collar workforce since age 13, anyone who doesn't show up to work is a pussy. Matter of fact most guys I know are bound to because they can't afford to take a day off and contractor's could cut them without giving them appropriate notice or lay them off early which I've seen happen. Many times over.

You can sit at home sick or make money sick.

I choose to make money.

Was listening to an interview on the local CBC radio yesterday with the chief medical officer of New Brunswick. Basically don't worry, it's not bad, but we haven't really tested anyone, we have no way of doing local testing, all tests would need to be sent to Ontario and again everything is fine.

This province is woefully unprepared for any kind of outbreak and if one were to occur it could cripple our already incredibly broke and strained medical system. We have hundreds, if not thousands of Chinese nationals going to university here. How many traveled home for Chinese new year and came back without so much as being questioned? The interview almost contradicts what Canada's chief health officer said the day before. Maybe it's because I am worried about this and am not thinking 100% clearly but it seems this province may be thinking the head in sand approach is the way to go.

I don't need politicians to come out and scream that the world is ending but a little urgency would be welcome. The fact that we have no way of confirming tests localy could be the difference between life and death.

Kim Jung Un rode out on a white stallion and struck a swift and deadly blow to the virus with his sword, thus ending the threat of any outbreak. 0 cases 0 fatalities. Supreme leader is the saviour. Probably something like that.

Hospitals wants to avoid a situation where everybody panics and rushes to the ER on the first indication of a cold symptom. This would overwhelm the health care system and keep the people most vulnerable to the virus - the elderly and individuals with pre-existing conditions - from receiving immediate treatment. If 80% of confirmed infections result in only mild symptoms, doctors and nurses will tell the majority of patients, especially the young ones, to ride out their sickness from the comfort of their own homes.

Fuck man that sounds awful. It's a good thing you made it although I read somewhere that those who had Legionnaires disease have a higher probability of contracting Coronavirus. Something like 99,9% chances. Crazy! Oh well, good luck!

Again when it was a CHina nurse whistleblower reporting out stuff that countered the gov't line we applauded it and considered it. When it comes to Trump and his regime its called 'partisan' with a demand to not note it.

It this person feels threatened (rightly or wrongly) in their job because Trump and Co are making sure its known no one disagrees with the party line and for telling the truth this could have a chilling effect on others speaking out. And we NEED others to speak out.




U.S. workers without protective gear assisted coronavirus evacuees, HHS whistleblower says


Officials at the Department of Health and Human Services sent more than a dozen workers to receive the first Americans evacuated from Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, without proper training for infection control or appropriate protective gear, according to a whistleblower complaint.

The workers did not show symptoms of infection and were not tested for the virus, according to lawyers for the whistleblower, who is a senior HHS official based in Washington who oversees workers at the Administration for Children and Families, a unit within HHS.

The whistleblower is seeking federal protection because she alleges she was unfairly and improperly reassigned after raising concerns about the safety of these workers to HHS officials, including those within the office of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar. She was told Feb. 19 that if she does not accept the new position in 15 days, which is March 5, she would be terminated.

Afaik the situation as of 6 days ago was: the CDC is testing pretty much nobody because they have to fit a rigid list of symptoms that mild cases often don't meet, only 3 states can test for the virus on their own, and a fault in the testing kits the CDC sent to labs around the country in early February makes them useless.

South Korea has tested 35,000 people, the US has tested... 500.

The 15th confirmed US coronavirus patient is in serious condition

California Rep. John Garamendi told CNN’s Erin Burnett on Thursday that the 15th confirmed US coronavirus patient is in "serious condition."

“This patient is in serious condition and our prayers go out to her and to our family,” Garamendi said.

When asked by Burnett if he had information on how this disease was transmitted, Garamendi said, “The answer is no. That is what the county is doing now. Their public health resources are going around, doing the tracking down of individuals who may have come in contact with this person. Whether this person can actually talk or not is of question. She’s been intubated, and so may not be in a position to discuss it.”
