It also has to do with the times. People aren't the same as when guys like Couture and Liddell would beat the hell out of each other and just be respectful before/during/after the fight.

They want disrespect, fighters spitting on each other figuratively/literally.

They have become accustomed to it to the point that a guy like Stipe who has a calm confidence is seen as boring/weak/etc...

Andy Richter, he's like Conan's low key sidekick, he doesn't do much more than add comments every now and then to keep it flowy, or present additional segments. I remember him from a TV series I think...
