I was reading in the rickson FAQ that he is qualified for the coral belt....what is it and what are the qualifications...just curious

It is a red and black panel belt. It signifies mastery of the art.

I believe it represents 7th and 8th degree black belts, but I might be off by a degree or so.

nope, you are correct.

Rickson turned it down and opted to stick with his black belt because the Red & Black is an old man's belt, haha.

pfffftttt.. Rickson has his own belt..
its a belt with him arm barring the belt and says 400-0

At first I thought this thread was going to be about someone who had heard that he should buy a Koral belt.

I saw one of those in person for the first time a couple of weeks ago, Joe Moreira came down and did a seminar at our school.

Hmm, nice, I get to see one every day. LOL

Better than the "Candy Cane" belt in Judo, but most of the high Dan's I've interacted with take the option to wear the black belt. Then there's always the feared "Grey Belts"

We-helll the master is now wearing a coral belt? Im gonna look into that immediately. As an 8th degree black belt, he is long since due, but he hadn't worn it until as late as last year in his seminars in Brazil.

I think he just put it on for the picture opportunity as far as I know (or wore it that day when he gave Caique his red/black).

Rickson looks like an old man in that photo...

...in saying that I most certainly wouldn't say that to his face. :|

I thought Relson came over and gave Caique his red/black? I want to say that he came over a couple years ago and made a sweep of my instructor (Fabio Santos), Caique and Pedro Sauer maybe? Giving them all their red/black? All kinds of awesome in this picture...

...and the people who showed up that day? OMG. Even now, 2 years later, I'm still in awe when I think about it.

Am I wrong though? Did Rickson give it to Caique? That would explain him in the coral belt for the picture?

well you can just say he looks 'experienced' :icon_chee

Well Rickson is not spring chicken anymore

I always though a red and black degree was 8th but my instructor has one and he is 7th
