Cop: "We only kill black people"

Yes because joking about killing people is otherwise acceptable... o_O
Yeah, cause the point of the joke was to point out something ridiculous.

I tell racist jokes all the time, and they're meant to be at my own expense. Like, for example, my group of friends in college were a bunch of South Americans and some Moroccan dudes and I used to joke around and call them all Mexican or Puerto Rican, because the joke was that the white guy doesn't know the difference between Puerto Rico and Bolivia. My other Arab friend sent me pics of his family a few years ago and I responded by asking when ISIS started taking yearbook photos. I also call myself honky and cracker and redneck all the time.

I think this cop had been a cop for like 25 years and hadn't even been accused or racism or misconduct, so him getting fired for making an over the top joke about the absurd notion that cops are just offing black people for sport seems a little excessive.

It's painfully obvious he's being sarcastic/joking. But he should know better in today's SJW political climate.

It's already a regular occurrence to be accused of racial discrimination as an officer. But this video makes him a liability to his department. Let's say he gets into a shootout with a black individual in the future, no matter how justified. This video will be at the center of that investigation and his department will probably be held accountable for not firing him sooner.

Facts will go out the window and the only thing that will matter is race---because of this video.

Sad but true.

Yeah, he is clearly joking and being sarcastic, but after 27 years on the department, I think he just gave his two week notice with that comment.

So, Cops killing actual innocent people get to stay on the force, but making bad jokes gets you fired?

PC culture at it's best (worst)

Cops killing actual innocent people? That's a vague, oversimplification of a complex issue.

The difference is, if you kill someone while doing your job, it may be justified whereas making inflammatory racist jokes during a DUI stop is not exactly within the color of the law.

You'd think it wouldn't need stating that you can't make jokes about killing people when pulling someone over for a DUI.

I'm a white person, and yet this is precisely my attitude (minus the son, part).

That's how you don't get killed by cops. You "err on the side" of deferring to their authority.

at least you're a woman though, that helps a lot.

He was clearly joking. Poor taste, and unprofessional, but let's not pretend for a second the guy was being serious.
Anyone who seriously thinks otherwise should have their reproductive rights revoked.

So some of you meat a person for the first time while working and make jokes like this? You do know these two people are not friends and met for the first time.

Actually impressed with the majority of right wingers saying he earned his firing.

Cops words hold a lot of weight. Can't joke about that stuff.

The first day I dropped my son off at daycare I was nervous. I expressed these concerns to the administrator and he said "Don't worry, we don't let them juggle knives anymore." See, that's a joke because the kids were never allowed to juggle knives nor would they have the opportunity to do so. Now if the guy had said to me "Don't worry, I only molest the girls." that would be a different situation. It's only a joke...but it's not.

If a cop doesn't understand his position in society or that words have meaning maybe working the day shift at a Starbucks will be a better fit for them.

To the posters in the thread who keep referencing the cop was only joking in humor/sarcasm. While this is true working in LE puts him in a higher moral standard where everything being recorded matters. It all goes back to perception & public image and this is where he falls in the wrong.

So this lady who was stopped was really nervous when the cops approached and he reassured her that they only kill black people so she has nothing to worry about. LOL this genius forgot that his dash cam was on and he was being recorded and now he's getting fired.

So I know that the BLM movement has morphed into a big clusterfuck but this attitude that the cop is showing is what the original movement was based on. White privilege is innocuous at times but not in the case of police with guns. If I was black I'd be scared shitless of the cops.

Not to mention he might be off in that statement as I believe statistically speaking, cops kill more white people.

But, I could be wrong.
