Contender Series 2023
Axelsen destroys everyone

Magnus Carlsen. Odds for tomorrow.
Assuming "Result after 2 Classical games" is effectively "Winner on Wednesday" since the 1st game was a draw?

temp-del-magnus-2023-08-23aa.png

About today:

In keeping with the rising expectations of the chess world, a confident R. Praggnanandhaa matched favourite Magnus Carlsen for a comfortable 35-move draw in their first-round clash in the final of the FIDE World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Tuesday.....Carlsen shared, “Normally, I would probably have a bit of an advantage having a rest day while he had to play a tough tiebreaker yesterday.

“But I’ve been in pretty rough shape these past couple of days like I got some food poisoning after the game against Abasov. I haven’t been able to eat for the last two days. This also meant that I was really calm and I had no energy… so I didn’t have any energy to be nervous.

“Overall, I’m happy with the way I solved the problems from the opening (phase). The result is fine.”

On Wednesday, Carlsen will play with white pieces. Should the game end in a draw, the title will be decided by tie-break games on Thursday.

The results:

Open (final, Game 1): R. Praggnanandhaa drew with Magnus Carlsen (Nor) ^

The Goaaaat

Yeah, figured those who bet to find out the best badminton player would also bet to find out the best chess player :D
Magnus drawing with black--not bad at any time--after food poisoning is not bad at all. Not seeing chess on my casino apps, unfortunately.

Did you get a good feeling about anything in tonight's bumfighting?
When I looked at it quickly, seems non-obvious due to the low level of prior competition. Would not doubt if someone gets wrecked for not really being at even the DWCS level.

Ah I just picked 3 to watch. @BoomBoxVader06 says Eli is a lock as a underdog so we'll see how that plays out.

Pragg is good and has been on fucking fire this tourney. Mag will smirch him though. I am just drunk enough to bet the bum fights tonight

Very much unsure about LOCK. But I see why someone might think the odds are a bit off and find it easy to go with the underdog. There might be some chance Reese will rush out blasting for a win, so I am picking him.

You would put real $ on chess*
and @Dude Incredible would put it in a parlay with the Mariners and PFL. Carlsen will feel better on Wednesday and will play white, so I am looking for him to get the win.

*I would too due to probability

Green tea would be enough to get you to bet on bumfighting.

I would trust Hikaru and Magnus with my money. That's it. Lol no I can't bet the bum fights anymore with real $, drunk or not. I got away with breaking even that one week and that was enough

Was there a chess thread I missed? And yeah I’d parlay the hell out of that. Huge value. Unlike whatever the Toothman is about to screech at us later.

Brito apparently did not want to finish the fight.
Definitely do not need more of that kind of “fighter” in the UFC.

Elliott’s Corner: “This is the round that changes your life.”
Good for Elliott. Already has heart and might even be able to develop some skills.

As usual, the commentary is at an even lower level than the fighting.
“virtually identical”
“It’s tight….he’s out”
“That’s tight. That’s super tight.”
