it could be called a no contest if both participants weren't deemed to be trying hard enough. i have seen a few fights that should have been stopped and called no contest.

i'm talking people fighting overly defensively and having the match canceled. it was common back in the day as there were a lot of people fighting every other weekend for a paycheck. i can't think of too many moderns boxing matches that should have been called no contest, but a great example would be starnes vs quarry or anderson whenever he fought good submission fighters.
