If history says anything when it comes to fight sports, its that losing literally has ZERO effect on the fighters future drawing power. Literally zero. Fighters can even go on losing streaks and still become more and more popular. Why? because people are not intrigued with records or belts as much as they are with personality.

Examples of fighters who became even bigger stars after losing:

MMA
Randy Couture
Chuck Liddell
Ken Shamrock
Tito Ortiz
Anderson Silva
Georges St.Pierre
Rampage Jackson

Boxing
Muhammad Ali
Mike Tyson
Evander Holyfield
Lennox Lewis
Oscar De La Hoya
Manny Pacquiao

Yeah, it's good that Brock's numbers stayed about the same after he lost to Cain at UFC 121. I mean, his 121 PPV numbers against Cain hit 1.05 million, and then his next fight with Reem at 141 stayed the same, at around 535k.

Well with Conor it's a bit different. His entire persona was built on being amazing, otherworldy, untouchable, and the greatest of all time. Losing kind of directly contradicts that.

If he can pull out the win against Nate then he'll be able to go back to that persona but if he loses...man. I don't know how McGregor can ever be 'McGregor' again. And that definitely hurts the UFC monetarily.

Losing to anyone, two in a row, would for sure call for a complete revamp of his business model. That would be a hit he cannot afford to take.

The next McGregor fight will be pivotal to McGregor, and I think he understands that.

I think Brock is probably a better example. They both had huge hype, and a lot of bandwagon fans. His numbers will probably stay high if he beats Nate but a loss will really hurt him.

it probably helped the UFC. his win would not have been a big deal. his loss was gang busters!

Espeically compaired to someone like Randy who was always sold as an underdog.

Conor's loss made lots of money for the UFC and they're about to make lots more setting him up to fail again.

It seems they don't really have the patience to milk him for all he's worth. Instead, they're just going to wring him out like a sponge.

Floyd Mayweather disagrees.

Pac would have earned much more if he didn't fuck up on the way.

Well Brock still did big numbers after his first loss to Mir. And Brock isn't really a big personality. Had he trash talked more against Overeem, that fight would have done huge as well. He was very passive during the build up to that fight.
