Obviously the incident, and repercussions, are being discussed in 100 other threads. But one aspect is being treated like it's the obvious reality that we all accept. The "Conor ruined 3 fights, for the fighters, fans and UFC" angle.
Chiesa was the highest ranked lightweight on the card outside the main event. Imagine he doesn't pull out. The UFC would be trying to justify a title shot for a guy coming off a first round submission defeat, 10 months ago.
And beyond that, Pettis would have still been without an opponent.
I understand the bitter hatred of the average Sherbum, but I don't understand the perpetuating of "Conor cost us 3 fights! That selfish son of a bitch"
1) Artem is an adult and chose to participate. And in reality didn't do anything as bad as Khabib did to him, before being kept on the card and handed a world title.
2) Chiesa would have gotten Khabib(unless the UFC wanted to shit on their own rankings, which would be more detrimental than anything Conor did.) This would leave Pettis with no opponent, or he would fight Iaquinta, and Felder would still have no opponent. So we didn't even lose a fight there.
3) Fuck Ray Borg. I'll admit Conor cost us that one fight. But most of us believe he's bullshitting. And none of us were "excited" about his fight.
So in the end Conor either saved the UFC from tossing out their own rankings, or saved us from Khabib-Chiesa. We were losing a 155 fight no matter what, and Artem made his own decision. And he saved us from(or cost us) the one flyweight fight. But clearly "HE RUINED 3 FIGHTS AND DESTROYED MY LIFE!" makes people feel better.
