For Integrity’s sake.

I know that going up to 170 and 155 made him rich as fuck.

the two Diaz fights and the Alvarez fight got him the Mayweather fight and all that made him a rich, rich man.

but if he stayed at 145 he had a shot of being the GOAT in all of MMA. Jose Aldo rematch I think he would have won. Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway rematches I say he wins. Mendes rematch he wins. Anyone other scraps at 145 pounds I say he is favored. He would have been the 145 pound Anderson Silva, and maybe still gotten the Mayweather fight. With the judges and the ref on his side, i bet he could have gotten 4-5 title defences.

with his height, size advantage, KO power. I think staying and defending at 145 pounds would have been best for his long term legacy.

The cut was taking too much of a toll on his body

170 was too much of an immediate leap but going to 155 was the right move.

I fully agree!

But I have no idea how he made that weight! He looked so drained!

Once IVs went away, I just don’t think he could make that cut well and perform at that weight. He was great at FW, at 155 some of those advantages disappear. Would never be the MMA GOAT though, that spot is already taken.

Fighters don’t care about goat status.

They’re not going to retire broke so obsessed fans can dream about perfect records.

He was damn near dead from the weight cut... Conor is perfectly sized for LW.. And of course takes some fights at WW..

Conor has a claim as one of the best fighters ever in three separate weight classes. That's huge for legacy.

He was a great featherweight but that weight cut was legitimately frightening.

Looks like a different human being lol.

Yeah and you can't have a long career when you cut that much weight.. As you hit 30 the body is not going to cooperate..

He couldn't sustain that 145 cut the older he got c'mon now.

He even avoided the 155 cut for crying out loud that tells you all you need to know.

He fought at 55 prior to coming to the UFC. His previous fight before joining the UFC was at 55. I think I recall hearing the UFC wanted him to come in at 45. But that cut was ridiculous.

He absolutely does not.
He is 1-1 at 155, and he’s only ever fought other 155ers at 170. His record there is 2-1, and arguably should be 1-2. He has an argument of being one of the best ever at featherweight. That’s it.

Edgar had the next shot and was in his prime at 145. Conor didn't give him a shot or Aldo his rematch.

Prior to the UFC, he fought at both weight classes and held titles in both.

If conor stayed at 145, he would have been undefeated period. My timeline of what would have happened.

Defeats Aldo in rematch
Defeats holloway in rematch
Defeats ortega
Defeats volkan
Retires

But i feel as though his body can't handle 145. He looked like skeletor

He’s kind of in a tough spot right now. Sure, he can fight at 3 weight classes but each brings different challenges for him.

145 is a tough cut for him. He could be champ again if he manages to make weight without killing himself
155 is where he naturally belongs but Khabib has his number
170 too small and has no answer for the elite wrestlers in this division

I’m ok with him moving on. The cut was obviously too much. Wish they would’ve squeezed the Aldo rematch out of him first but whatever. If you can beat the scales, there’s nothing to say in most cases but Conor looked really bad on the scale at 145.

Yeah it’s a rough place to be.
I don’t think he can make 145.
At LW, I think he’s above average. He’d probably be a mainstay in the Top 10, but it’s not just Khabib that has his number. I think Ferguson beats him, Gaethje likely beats him, I’m not so sure that Poirier couldn’t do it at 155. Plus there are people outside the Top 5 that could give him trouble, like Oliveira.
At 170, Conor’s in deep shit. He’d have a pretty bad night fighting any of the Top 15.
